I’d like to see another cut of those figures:
How about comparing carriers’ [ad spend/premiums] ratios against [agent-broker commissions/premiums]?
See who is paying for noise on the airways vs. ground-level personal service & insurance guidance.

They should have their rates thrown out and re-justified. This is getting out of control, and will soon be going the way of the pharm companies!

GEICO’s advert spend is about 1/3 of what most IA companies spend for adverts PLUS agent commissions.

And much of what gets spent on agent commissions is turned around and spent on adverts for the IA.

If you actually LOOK at the TOTAL acquisition spend, GEICO is pretty darn efficient compared to the IA boys.

GEICO takes agents out of the equation…5 to 20% will give you some BIG $$$ to advertise.
Personally I can’t stand the little green lizard and TURN IT OFF when it is on. It must work for somebody or they would not keep it on so constantly.

The money these companies spend on advertising is ridiculous. Most of us in the U.S. are insurance poor. If the major insurance companies would reduce there advertising budget, They could really help out the general public. The general public is sick of seeing these commercials and than get their monthly bill in the mail.

I realize this article is a few years old but as often as Progressive Insurance’s “Flo” character is on the boob tube, I can’t imagine that they haven’t taken first place in ad spending. Nothing against Stephanie Courtney who plays Flo, just tired of the endless brainwashing all advertising is.

Yes, it is brainwashing, constantly showing, and telling people, this is this, or that is that, eventually makes people accept it. Some people are easier than others to coercive persuasion. This industry has been around for ages and is nothing but a study in human behavior, a science, and they’re learned quite a bit in all of those years.

Then again, total money spent on advertising might also be an indicator of what companies are using cheaper overseas advertising companies as well. Like so many industries driven by Wall Street greed in the U.S.A. anymore, to hell with supporting the U.S.A., and our citizens, by creating jobs here, run overseas to increase your profit margins by exploiting people there.
