Take out the pork, and get the rest to the needy, the congressman from New York screaming his head of this morning on Fox news, fully understands no appropriations bill were going to be submitted so everyone tack on the pet projects on to this bill knowing it would pass, well it didn’t because the senate put the pork on it, get it out and stop playing politics with theses folks hurting in New York and New Jersey

This is what happens when politicians lose the connection between the money they are spending and where it comes from.

The Federal Government through FEMA should not be the sole remedy for disaster relief. The Insurance Industry also has billions of exposure from what I have read on websites. A bill passed with all this unrelated pork is what is wrong with Congress. These guys are unbelievable with what they are doing with our money. We should only be passing legislation related to one subject with no amendments for pet pork projects.

Agent, I agree completely. It’s disgusting, and both parties are doing it. We need a new political party: “The Common Sense Party”. At the very least we need a new law, just as you described. One subject per bill with no amendments for pet pork. I think that’s something that people of both ends of the spectrum (except for the politicians) could agree on.

There is no “Common Sense” with what Congress and this administration is doing every day of the week. The qualifications for holding office have deteriorated to the Moron IQ level which is about 60. All they are interested in is feathering their nest with special interest money so they can retire multi millionaires with all the benefits that go along with it. People keep electing them and they keep doing the same things over and over and hoping for a better result, but the country is in steep decline and the abyss of failure awaits not too long in the future.

The age-old practice of attaching unrelated items onto a bill designed for one single purpose as got to stop.

One solution: The line-item veto. The time has come. Call your Congressman and Senator.

      I totally agree.

But we all know this is not going to happen even with the promise of the “most transparent” President in US history (Obama) that he will use his line veto to cut pork out. As it turns out, he is only using this power against Repubs and those that do not agree with him in his own party.

Yes, it gives the President more power. You can’t look at the line-item veto in the short-term. You have to view on a very long-term basis, across Republican and Democratic administrations. In the long run, it is the biggest weapon against attaching unrelated and sometimes rediculous items to a bill designed for a single purpose.

I think it is quite reasonable to split the disaster aid bill in 2: one that is entirely allocated for damages directly resulting from Sandy and one that will have to be scrutinized to excise pork barrels that have nothing to do with Sandy at all.
