“This was a remarkable settlement,” plaintiffs’ attorney Steve Berman said at the hearing today. “I believe this is the largest settlement in a U.S. automobile case in terms of the amounts of dollars and the number of class members.”

Not a surprising statement coming from the plaintiff’s attorney. Looks like he and his ilk will walk away with hundreds of millions of dollars and the “read victims” here will be lucky to get $250 each. What a system, what a racket.

Kind of reminds me of Erin Brockovich’s firm that got famous and wealthy with their class actions. The attornie’s that win these suits end up with the lion’s share, especially if there are a lot of claimants. By the way, my Toyota runs great and never a problem with a stuck accelerator.

I am somewhat sad for Toyota, because they had a problem and they are trying to (solve) settle… Sadly, the big winners are the lawyers “in the name of safety, blah blah blah” As a 2009 Prius Owner, with all the hysteria and (light) break problems, I found the way to break a bit slowly… and then I exchange the car for a newer model! So, as you see, I loss more value in the name of safety, then this or other settlement will give me, therefore, I did not enjoy any class action. I hope Toyota and the judges will decide more in favor of the owners then lawyers. And instead they provide owners with a free oil service for 10 years and at least a new set of tires… after they fix the problem!
