Sorry, Libby! I was actually trying to “like” your comment. We’re all sick of Congress right now.

Rep Paul Ryan (R-WI): “I didn’t support the farm bill. The Democrats promised 40 votes and they didn’t deliver the votes that they had promised. Our leaders brought the bill to the floor based on the commitment that Democrats from the agricultural districts made. And then during consideration of this bill on the floor, they reneged on the commitment of the 40 votes that they promised and the bill went down. So when you’re in divided government and when you’re trying to bring bipartisan legislation to the floor, you have to keep your word on whether you’re going to vote for something or not. I, before this bill came to the floor, said I wasn’t going to vote for it. They knew that. Some Democrats said, we will vote for it. Then after the bill was brought to the floor, they changed their minds, and the bill went down…the worst thing about working in Congress (is) a lot of people lie .They look you right in the eye and lie to you… and you know that they’re doing it,” **Minutes before bringing the farm bill up for a vote, the 62 conservative Republicans — like Ryan — who ultimately voted down the farm bill, pushed through an amendment to limit the food stamp programs and undercut Democratic support for the overall bill.**

Well you can’t blame everyone and Ryan was just trying to cut the food stamp program which is way over the top anyway. I believe in helping people out who need it, but to buy votes with food stamps is the Obama way. I know, I know, bring it on Libby.

But it’s perfectly okay to buy votes in red states with big, fat farm subsidies.

draetish – I’ll actually go easy on this one. Food stamps are only 2% of the Federal Budget. While I agree there is fraud and misuse, it is miniscule in comparison to the money involved with SSI and Medicaid/Medicare. These 2 programs together make up 43% of the Federal Budget and Defense another 19%. These are the areas we should focus our attention on revamping. But not an easy task without drastically affecting many Americans.

Safety Net Programs (so-called “entitlement programs”) are 12% of the budget. But please note:

“Such programs keep millions of people out of poverty each year. A CBPP analysis shows that government safety net programs kept some 25 million people out of poverty in 2010. Without any government income assistance, either from safety net programs or other income supports like Social Security, the poverty rate would have been 28.6 percent in 2010, nearly double the actual 15.5 percent.” http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=1258

I don’t know what the answer is, I just know it is not a slam-dunk and there is no magic solution. It will take creativity and hard work to get this all under control. At this point, I’m not sure the current administration can accomplish it. But in all fairness, there was a huge mess in 2008 and I think the country is heading in the right direction. I look forward to 2016.

I find it abhorrent that congress cannot work together on anything. However, it needs to be pointed out that the “Party of No” needs to know what the consequences are when they are the recipient of No.

And now this idiot wants to open up trade with Africa with some $70B in Green Energy ‘investment” because of Chinas growing influence (WGN News). Didn’t bother to ask Joe Tax Payer if they want that.

Geez, lets open up more competition for our Corps to export jobs too.

Next Election, vote against everyone that is in there.

Too bad Libby didn’t leave her commentary out. She would probably have over 100 likes with no dislikes by now. Or maybe if she would have stated “Administration of no” meaning everyone in DC????

This has got to be the worst situation in DC in my life.
