Patti Cake, With new revelations coming out each week about this disaster in the making, I am not sure the bill will have to be repealed. The Progressives are having a terrible time with the exchanges not being ready, putting off the mandates, cost overruns trying to figure out how to provide free healthcare to 20-30 million people, having carriers refuse to participate in the exchanges etc. One of the biggest lies was our fearless leader saying it wouldn’t add one dime to the deficit. Oops! It is already projected to cost more than double the original estimate and that may be on the light side.
I think we have wide agreement with you on this Libby. I saw a related article this morning and the writer accidentally put in the delay year as 2105 instead of 2015. As far as we are concerned, they could delay it until 2105 and future generations can worry about it because we will be long gone.

I agree with your statement. That is a great point! However this administration is not interested in being fair. They are interested in saving votes during the next election.
The proof is there. The simple fact that they did not mention individual mandate, but did delay until after elections.
If this is such a good bill, why delay anything? Or if it’s a bad bill (as the majority of Americans believe) scrap the whole thing and start fresh. BTW, since when does a President without approval of congress get the opportunity to change a bill? Is this constituitonal? We have a President and Attorney General here who appear to hold the Constition in low regard.
Uh, most Americans are not against the bill. We re-elected President Obama. Mitt ran on repealing the bill. If Americans didn’t like it, we’d have Romney for a President right now. Instead, he got rolled in the election.
If you look at polling, most Americans are in support of the benefits of the bill. It’s the mandate that most people reject. And, we can thank the Heritage Foundation for that piece. Heck, most of the bill is from them. You might have been for it back when Dole was promoting it in response to Hillarycare.
By the way, President Obama is an expert on Constitutional Law. His Harvard degree evidences that fact.

As long as the Republican leadership believes this, they will keep on losing. Romney did not lose because he has money, he lost because he was not consistent in his message. When he was running for office in MA he had liberal views. Then he said he was a severly conservative governor during the primaries. I would venture to guess that many if not most Republicans that did vote for him were only voting against Obama.
If you do not have a candidate that people, especially Independents like myself, want to vote for, expect to lose. That goes for both sides.
Republicans need to realize that they cannot win with a far-right Conservative candidate. They need someone more toward the middle like Jon Huntsman. As long as they keep parading the Gingriches, Perrys, Santorums and Bachmans of the world they will not win.

Bob, Hoover wasn’t doing things to cause the Great Depression. It was the Progressives starting with Teddy Roosevelt and right through Woodrow Wilson who instigated all the wild spending/speculation that caused much of the problem. Hoover was the unlucky guy who happened to be in the White House at the time of the crash and got blamed for it. Then, FDR made problems worse with his Progressive program. He prolonged the Depression by 10 years and only WW11 got him out of it. The current administration thinks they can spend themselves out of trouble as well. They say that people who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Truer words have not been spoken.

I am in no way, shape or form blaming President Hoover for the Great Depression, but it did officially begin during his administration and ended during FDR’s. The Great Recession officially began during President Bush’s and ended during President Obama’s. If you have facts to dispute those facts, please provide and cite your source.

Ron, here is a test of your reading skills. If you were a student of history, you would realize that the Great Depression was primarily in the FDR years from 1933-1941. Eight long years of Progressive policy. Everything FDR tried prolonged it with the Progressive agenda. Make work jobs digging ditches sure didn’t do it. The attack on Pearl Harbor did do it since so many unemployed men signed up for the service to fight the war. Had that not happened, the country would have languished on for several more years since the plan was wrong. Putting people to work in the private sector is the only way to recover the economy. The women signed up to work in the war industries while the men were off fighting to keep this country free. There is your history lesson for the day. Take it in the spirit given.

How does having a Harvard degree provide evidence of Obama being an expert on Constitutional Law? He may have graduated from Harvard, but what were his grades? Since none of his grades have EVER been released, for all we know his GPA was in the C- range and he may have gotten a D, or worse, in constitutional law. Don’t bother pointing out he was a teacher of Constitutional law in Chicago; I believe he was really just a guest lecturer, not a real teacher. I have never heard any of his “students” from his time there step up and tell us what a great teacher he was. His general misunderstanding of the Constitution was on display today when he gave a statement about using Google and technology to improve government operations. He call the US a democracy; which it clearly is not. The US is a Constitutional REPUBLIC, which is drastically different from a democracy. In a republic minorities have rights, in a democracy it is essentially mob rule.
You are right getting older. I get agitated when politicians or others refer to this country being a democracy. It was set up by wise founding fathers as a Constitutional Republic. The Progressives apparently never said the Pledge of Allegiance or they would remember the ending “and to the Republic for which it stands”. The Democrats by their very name want a Democracy or mob rule as you put it and Republicans by their name want a Republic, three branches of government which serves for checks and balances to keep government in check. Unfortunately, none of the branches of government are doing their job in today’s world. The Executive Branch has been running roughshod over the other two who are basically impotent.

This does seem to be a political play to perhaps force a single payor system in the near future. Not something I’m necessarily against. We’ll have to wait and see how it all shakes out.

It seems Obama took a page out of Karl Rove’s playbook from the 2004 Bush campaign to get re-elected. If Canada was so good, why do their patients come to the US for operations and treatment? They are saving money by not treating anyone for serious illnesses. And I’ve met and spoken to plenty of Brits who have no complaints at all about their health care. And Canadians, too. If Canadians are coming over here for health care, it’s because it’s elective or cosmetic surgery not covered by health insurance.

It appears that he is willing to accept that there are flaws to the implementation deadlines in the law and has adjusted accordingly. That is something I admire about him. If the Republicans in the House were smart, they would have pursued a more gradual approach to change certain aspects of the law instead of only passing bills to completely repeal the law. In the curent political environment, that has zero chance of passing the Senate and getting the President’s signature. Do you honestly believe that those 37 bills made good use of your tax dollars?

So Sargeant, people won’t have to prove they are not getting employer provided healthcare in their exchange app. Do you see the potential for fraud with this? Some have estimated that up to $250 Billion will go down the rat hole in pure fraud since there will only be spot checks here and there.
Absolutely, just like there is fraud in Medicaid, welfare, etc. I saw, in one government report (I can’t remember which but will try to find) that up to 42% of entitlement payments are not qualified. In other words they are fraudulent. Why would this be any different?
Single payor. Universal health care – like Canada, UK – the majority of the civilized world. There are children in the US w/o eyeglasses and vaccinations. Liberal organizations are compelled to sponsor ‘free clinics’ so that the unemployed and underemployed can have preventative checkups. Patti Cake, With new revelations coming out each week about this disaster in the making, I am not sure the bill will have to be repealed. The Progressives are having a terrible time with the exchanges not being ready, putting off the mandates, cost overruns trying to figure out how to provide free healthcare to 20-30 million people, having carriers refuse to participate in the exchanges etc. One of the biggest lies was our fearless leader saying it wouldn’t add one dime to the deficit. Oops! It is already projected to cost more than double the original estimate and that may be on the light side.

If you look at polling, most Americans are in support of the benefits of the bill. It’s the mandate that most people reject. And, we can thank the Heritage Foundation for that piece. It was the Progressives starting with Teddy Roosevelt and right through Woodrow Wilson who instigated all the wild spending/speculation that caused much of the problem. Hoover was the unlucky guy who happened to be in the White House at the time of the crash and got blamed for it. Then, FDR made problems worse with his Progressive program. He prolonged the Depression by 10 years and only WW11 got him out of it. The current administration thinks they can spend themselves out of trouble as well. How does having a Harvard degree provide evidence of Obama being an expert on Constitutional Law? He may have graduated from Harvard, but what were his grades? You are right getting older. I get agitated when politicians or others refer to this country being a democracy. It was set up by wise founding fathers as a Constitutional Republic. The Progressives apparently never said the Pledge of Allegiance or they would remember the ending “and to the Republic for which it stands”. The Democrats by their very name want a Democracy or mob rule as you put it and Republicans by their name want a Republic, three branches of government which serves for checks and balances to keep government in check. If Canada was so good, why do their patients come to the US for operations and treatment? They are saving money by not treating anyone for serious illnesses. And I’ve met and spoken to plenty of Brits who have no complaints at all about their health care. And Canadians, too. If you add very and somewhat satisified, Americans are at 48%, Great Britain are at 41% and Canada is at 51%.

It appears that he is willing to accept that there are flaws to the implementation deadlines in the law and has adjusted accordingly. That is something I admire about him. If the Republicans in the House were smart, they would have pursued a more gradual approach to change certain aspects of the law instead of only passing bills to completely repeal the law. In the curent political environment, that has zero chance of passing the Senate and getting the President’s signature. Do you honestly believe that those 37 bills made good use of your tax dollars?

Incentives work much better than mandates. Pre-existing condition waiting periods for those that have more than a 63 day gap in coverage has worked well for years. I like guarantee issue , however, small rate ups of around 20 to 30% should be allowed for obesity (non genetic) and smokingu.

Brokie, I don’t know where you are from but in Detroit most of those kids that go without glasses and vaccinations are on Medicaid and can get them for free. The problem is the parents are more interested in something else than taking care of their kids.
