Kneeland Promoted to Acting General Counsel for Agents Association

Scott Kneeland has been promoted to acting general counsel for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA). He has served as the IIABA’s senior counsel for the past four years.

Kneeland succeeds Debra Perkins, IIABA’s executive vice president and general counsel, who has decided to pursue other opportunities and interests after a long tenure on the Big “I” staff.

Before joining the Big “I” staff in 2009, Kneeland worked for Arent Fox, a national law firm based in Washington, D.C. with about 350 attorneys, where he handled a wide array of sophisticated corporate and real estate transactional work, including work for several national trade associations. Prior to that, Kneeland was a journalist for The Gainesville Sun, then part of the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group. He earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Florida and his law degree at The George Washington University.

Perkins served on the executive management and legal teams of the IIABA for nearly 17 years. She will continue on as an IIABA consultant for through the fall.

Founded in 1896, IIABA is the nation’s oldest and largest national association of independent insurance agents and brokers, representing a network of approximately a quarter of a million agents, brokers and their employees nationally.
