The article is probably not correct that you would be covered by your personal auto if use a car sharing service.

Most policies do not provide coverage for autos that are furnished or available for your regular use. (Exclusion B.2.b) This seems like it would exclude coverage for car sharing services.

As a car owner using Relay Rides, I have never been worried about the liabilities of loaning my car out to the community. Many Americans are overly afraid of liability risk which will only make you crazy in the end. The sharing economy is booming and is essential for bringing our country out of this slump. There’s probably more liability involved in loaning your lawnmower to your neighbor than renting your car on Relay Rides. Besides, I got a great policy from 4AutoInsuranceQuote that ensures I will be covered even if I let people “borrow” my car. ($10/month add on)

Many people in the US and around the world are already sharing their houses and apartments via airbnb. Somehow the thousands of people already signed up for resource sharing websites were able to get past the negligible chances litigation and realize the immense personal and societal benefits of sharing your car or your house with your neighbors.
