Who among us think that the Recession was over by 2010? How many recovery summers have we had with no improvement? What policies did Obama put in place that has aided business to create jobs, change tax policy to stimulate rather than pure spending policy which only added to debt. The next thing to be tried is raising the retirement age for Social Security since $500 mil has been stolen to fund Obamacare. I have no friends who think they can retire at the normal age and many seniors are still working to supplement their pension, Social Security etc. Cost of living does not go down.

Yes, because its Obama’s fault americans don’t put money into savings each paycheck and money into my 401K. Anyone under the age of 35 who expects Social Security is anything other than an additional tax by the governement is living in a fairy tale. This has nothing to do with Obama BTW, we’ve known about this for over 20 years.

For those over 35 who are relying on social security as a sole source of income, or didn’t put money into a 401K or savings until they were 45, thats a tough deal but it nobody’s fault but your own. 60% of people in poverty now own a cell phone and a HDTV. Indivual circumstances regading employement or health be what they may but onone is in more control of ones own retirement nest egg than themselves. Put some money away, it doesn’t take much each month when you start early. I have co-workers who won’t even put 4% into their 401K to get the company match; how am I supposed to feel sorry for them when retirement comes and they don’t have anything.

Mike, I buy some of your premise but not all of it. The great recession has depleted a lot of savings of Americans, particularly the ones who lost their jobs and can’t find a decent job. Wages also have not increased in the past 4 years even though the cost of living has gone up. Millions of Americans have bought into the “Nanny State” that Obama has been installing for 6 years and that he will take care of them with “entitlements” so why bother to save? Those of us who have had retirement accounts and put into them for years will be better off. I don’t know how the younger families will put their kids through college these days since the costs have risen so dramatically in recent years. Scholarships and loans are used and the kid ends up owing a fortune and then they can’t get a job in the marketplace. A healthy vibrant economy would solve a lot of problems, but we are in the 6th year of Obama and it looks as bad as 2009.

Yes Mike, are you talking about the Free ObamaPhones? And the Free FREE FREE FREE everything else that Obama likes to give away and expects American’s to pay for on the backs of the (few) working class of this country? What money is left to put into savings??? We are paying to support millions of illegal’s now along with the folks that were already on govt. handouts. (Only the handouts are a lot more lucrative now.) Also I think you need to check your facts and figures Mike because the types of jobs that have been made available under the Obama administration have not come with 401k’s and company match. They come with the kind of health plans that are available under Obamacare if your hours aren’t cut down to the point where your employer doesn’t have to fire you to be able to afford to keep his/her business open.

Hey car, the Progressive Socialist Democratic Party earned the title of the new party of “NO” after the elections. They called Republicans the party of “NO” for opposing Obama’s leftist agenda for 6 years. Now, the lame ducks have defeated Keystone yet again which would have created 40,000 construction jobs. Even the unions wanted that since they need to put their workers to work. Mary Landrieu of La came late to the party and wanted it to help her bid to retain her seat and all the other liberals in the Senate shot her down. So long Mary. You can set up shop as a lobbyist in DC now since that is where you actually live now in your mansion. It will be passed in January and the President can be the President of “NO”.

No. You wouldn’t name a prior law as a reason for a current one.

If you were logical you might call it a politician phone, or maybe a Bush W phone. This is the one time you can actually say it and I’ll let you because it’s right.

But saying a Reagan phone when the majority of people use the free cell phones, is a bit like saying Reagan forced the actions of another president which he didn’t.

These laws aren’t worth arguing over.

The conservatives that are bringing it up are meh.

In addition, because we give amnesty to children that were brought here illegally and have lived here ALL THEIR LIVES does in no way mean we are “supporting” them. I know many illegals that work harder than I’m sure you’ve ever worked in your life.

Most of the “handouts” you’re talking about are being given to American citizens, not illegals.

I have no issue with the free phone being a land line in the home. You get 1 phone that way, not a phone per person in the house which is happening now, it can’t be taken to the sell your phone here kiosk at Walmart or the Mall and traded in for a little cash. It serves the purpose of an emergency phone. No texting, no data involved in looking at your facebook account. If you want all that, then it is up to you to buy a phone, otherwise, be happy with a free land line. That’s what the program was supposed to be. Maybe congress can pass a revision to this. I think the vast majority of America would get behind a simple 1 page bill saying the free phone program is for land lines only and that all mobile phones previously given out will be deactivated in 60 days. Save us billions a year.

Perhaps you should have looked up what comes with your free government phone before posting. I did. It comes with 250 minutes per month. Period. No texting or internet. And from the looks of it, I doubt you’d bet anything for it at the kiosk. It’s pretty bare bones.

I see no difference between a land line and a cell phone. Cell is better for emergencies.

Great stats. However, you ommitted a few-like how many people aren’t being counted as unemployed after 2 years, or how many people are working 2 or even 3 jobs and still can’t earn as much as they did under Bush. Or even how average household income is less than it was under Bush.
Lets face it, this wasn’t a recession, but rather a depression and Obama is no FDR. We aren’t out of it yet and I think that we have years to go before we truly recover and its too bad that we have to wait another 2 years for some Republican leadership that can create a more business friendly environment instead of the neo socialism practiced by Obama over the last 6 years.

I just showed the other side of the CBO he didn’t show, and didn’t know.

Then I showed the measures that matter with unemployment rates.

Which you don’t know, and don’t show.

            I’m stupid right?

This recovery is totally better than Reagan’s isn’t it? *Sarcasm alert*

I can crush you in any argument, because of two reasons:

            I don’t use other people’s conclusions.
I use a multitude of sources to confirm details, and then make my own methodology, which is superior to that of pundits.

You need to learn to listen without some hip agenda of being right. This is our country. Act like it and show responsibility.

You have a degree. Research as if you were doing a math class. Math classes don’t go off of theory unless the methodology matches up.

You show theory and conclusions of other people reviewing the data and methodology.

Anyone can play around with stats that someone else made to come to a conclusion.

It’s all about the methodology. The CBO also said that the stimulus would harm the economy in the long run.

        You are cherry picking.

Regarding presidents, this relies entirely on how you weigh improvements. For example: If you compare Obama and Reagan on the unemployment rate, they look about equal.

If you however note the labor participation rate in conjunction with the unemployment rate, you will find the unemployment rate only went down with Obama because the labor participation rate went down.

With Reagan it was a true recovery, with both going up. This mean the jobs were actually lowering the unemployment rate, instead of the amount of people working lowering the unemployment rate.

It is a matter of the measure. Reagan’s turn around on the economy is the best in modern history if you look at the right numbers.

Reagan was a Keynesian economist too. The only difference is that the government spending went to defense versus infrastructure and other priorities.

As far as the economy being hurt, the unemployment rate is 5.8%. This is much lower than when President Obama came into office.

I mentioned your numbers for a reason. I stay on topic when debating.

And sorry, no, he was not a Keynesian politician. He had a democrat congress, they happen to be Keynesian. Meaning they were ok with his tax cuts but not his spending cuts.

            http://www.econlib.org/library/Enc1/Reaganomics.html

The inflation adjusted deficits shrunk to 2.5% under Reagan by comparison to his predecessor Carter.

You forget he had proposed budget cuts and couldn’t get them.

Reagan wanted only one type of increased spending, and that was defense. Even in that, that was not a concern spending wise and would not make him Keynesian as it had nothing to do with the belief that higher spending helps the economy. It has to do with winning the cold war. Which he did efficiently.

            But on budget cuts,

            http://www.nytimes.com/1981/03/11/us/reagan-proposals-detail-further-trims-in-budget.html

What democrats forced, and what Reagan proposed are a different story.

            Moron.

            Insurance 102:

I must also mention, the 5.8% rate is not accurate. If the labor participation rate goes down, the unemployment rate is down due to there being less people working in the workforce.

The unemployment rate is not down due to more jobs or an economic fix. We are still teetering on the edge. Many of Obama’s programs are causing this. Like oh say, increasing the cost of housing, and relying on low interest rates to keep the housing market going. What happens when we can’t keep the rate low, considering pay hasn’t gone up, and Obama made sure that housing prices surpassed what they were in 2007? Another crash, which I’m sure you will blame on republicans and deregulation.

During Reagan the unemployment rate did go down at the same time as labor participation going up. Look it up.

You need to go into remedial economics. Do you deny what I just said is true about the unemployment rate?

You haven’t read the articles about baby boomers being unable to retire?

This guy does a good job of highlighting the numbers so I don’t have to.

            http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2014/07/27/are-baby-boomers-responsible-for-the-low-labor-for.aspx

The amount in the 55 and older age group in the work force has jumped, the amount of people in the 25-54 has dropped. Baby boomers are not the reason.

Babyboomers cant retire? What a shame, considering they had three decades of unprecedented prosperity, with which they promptly destroyed, leaving the ruins to their kids.

Babyboomers not saving for retirement is the problem. Maybe you shouldnt be such a taker and moocher, Bob? Dont be so lazy, pull your own weight.

Perhaps you took no History courses at all while getting three degrees. Enter Jimmy Carter who laid waste to the economy in four short years. Inflation was rampant, economic malaise with no jobs, an energy plan of just turn the thermostats down and wear a sweater. That was a Democrat, by the way. Of course, Obama went sailing right by him as a terrible President. No, Babyboomers didn’t ruin this country for the younger generation unless you are counting Progressive Babyboomer politicians who implemented much of the disaster we have today.

Agent, that is a remarkable recollection of American history. In 1977, the DOW was 894. It closed at 932 in 1981. Conversely, the only time in American history where there has been a 10yr period where the DOW did not end up ahead was under Bush. Ever.

In addition, not mentioned in the link I provided, is the fact that millions of jobs have been outsourced to overseas, so there are less jobs available to us. All of these things need to be factored when comparing labor participation rates 30 years ago to today.

No. They don’t have to be.

I don’t care about the WHY I care that during Reagan the labor participation rate fell and then shot back up, while unemployment rates went down.

During Obama, who has control to stop what you just mentioned and you seem to state it as something that just happens randomly,

The labor participation rate dropped equally, and suddenly. And has not gone back up.

The results are shockingly similar. Nothing has randomly changed since fast enough during the recession to make a labor participation rate not bounce back up, other than this president is doing the wrong things to get it back up.

            End of story.

You can’t just dismiss the fact that there are less jobs available now than there were even 7 years ago. They have been shipped overseas by the millions. If you had a job, lost it because of the recession, and your company moved it overseas to save money, it would not be there for you to return to.

How is that not a valid point? Less jobs available, lower participation rate. It’s common sense. And there is nothing RANDOM about it.

            I can’t? I can and will.

It dropped just as suddenly as with Reagan. Can I use that to say the labor participation didn’t drop with Reagan too? Or does that just apply for Obama? Double standards eh Libby?

We’ve been shipping jobs over seas some time.

You say over the last 7 years. It happened all at once. Did all the jobs suddenly go over seas?

            N0!

It dropped with a recession. From there, it is a matter if those jobs come back. They haven’t. The labor participation rate is down. Obama has failed.

Say the words. I’m tired of you refusing to acknowledge he failed. So Obama doesn’t have the ability to stop jobs from going over seas then?

It is some paranormal fluke activity just for him? Grow up for God’s sakes!

You’re unwilling to give Reagan credit for having both the labor participation rate go down, while the unemployment rate goes down,

But you are perfectly willing to give excuses to Obama, blame everything else for why the economy isn’t better, and shrug off the lower labor participation rate and say that’s just the way it is supposed to be?

It isn’t. If we don’t make this better our whole system will collapse. Reagan fixed it in his time. Obama hasn’t.

What I said, read very slowly and carefully here, is that you can’t compare Reagan’s recession 35 years ago with what is happening today. It’s apples and oranges.

Its better because it has expanded coverage, now including millions of americans that were unable to see a doctor for a myriad of reasons (poor, pre-existing conditions, etc).

Had the democrats passed universal coverage, or rather, just expanded medicaid to everyone, you would actually see downward price pressure on the markets since people would have a viable alternative.

This is not theory, man. Look at Canada. Or the EU. Or literally EVERY SINGLE OTHER DEVELOPED NATION on the planet. We are the richest nation with the highest wealth gab and you dont want to provide coverage because $1mm+ incomes shouldnt pay more.

          @bob

Yawn! It is 6:30, and I am on the subway home.

Here is a quick lesson on macroeconomics. The Fed has announced they will stop quantitative easing and begin slowly to raise interest rates. The result? The markets have continued to go up. The market has not crash and burned as you stated.

As for Reagan, he relied on the Laffer curve–which is a big laugh. Trickle down economics simply did not work. If you look at those who received tax cuts, they simply saved the money and did not put in the economy (similar to the tax cuts that happened under George W Bush). It did not make a difference as money did not go to people who would have put this money back into the economy (i.e. spent it). By doing this, they would have generated more economic activity (jobs, growth, investment, etc).

If you do not believe me, look at Forbes. Forbes is hardly a left wing newspaper. Its editor has even sought the Republican presidential nomination. When comparing (apples for apples) the economy that Reagan inherited versus Obama, Obama’s policies have created more jobs, higher economic growth and greater stock market growth.

          http://www.forbes.com/sites/adamhartung/2014/09/05/obama-outperforms-reagan-on-jobs-growth-and-investing/

This benefits not just the wealthy-but upper middle class and working families who have 401K’s and a substantial stake in how the S&P and other market indexes function.

Enough of this. Just two statements, after reading the Forbes article I hope you agree with me that if you want to live like a Republican, vote for a Democrat. Also, please act like your venerated leader (Reagan). Fall asleep at work, and leave the important work for other people to handle.

          Thank you come again!

            @Agent

The red states are slowly coming “purple” and then “blue”. States that used to be solid red states are now blue (ex. Virginia) or purple (Nevada, Colorado and Florida). Hence, I give Hillary 237 solid electoral votes with a Republican challenger having 155 electoral votes.

The 237 votes do not include states like Virginia and Wisconsin which I believe would favor Hillary or another Democrat in 2016. This means that the Republicans would have to literally run the table in “purple” states to have a chance to win the presidency. These are objective facts Agent.

Your party has to change its image and put forth a candidate that can compete in this new America. Otherwise, the only time the Republicans will be in the White House will be on the 25 cent public tour!

Yes 102. We noticed how purple Texas became in the last election. Total sweep of the Progressive Democratic Party and the biggest landslide in the Governor’s race in history. Wendy Davis lost by almost one million votes. Her War on Women approach was disastrous to say the least. We hope she moves to friendlier Pennsylvania and Libby can console her.

FFA, Ron’s house is covered and he can’t get out of the door or go down the street with all that fresh Global Warming snow. Assuming it stops in the next week, he may be able to leave. By the way, Libby seems to think Texas is dragging the country down. Texas has created more jobs than the entire N/E put together including her Pennsylvania. That is why so many companies have relocated here including State Farm with their huge expansion in the metroplex. Reason: No State Income tax and incentives the state, counties, cities to encourage the move to a friendlier business climate. We also have a better weather environment than the frozen tundra states. We were in the 60’s today.

    @freedom

Happy Friday! This is the problem with conservative math. Did I say that Texas was a purple state? No! Of the states with the largest electoral vote, it is the only red state.

    Texas-38 electoral votes

However, the largest and fourth states with regards to electoral votes are New York and California. We can safely assume these are solidly blue states.

New York and California-84 electoral votes

Florida is swing state, but it is tilting towards the Democratic column as the demographics change.

Pennsylvania and Illinois are tied for the fifth biggest electoral prize (20 electoral votes each). Both are strong blue states.

    Pennsylvania and Illinois-40 electoral votes

    Simple math (84+40)>38

Can you understand now why I say that the Republicans have to sweep all the purple states? The Democratic candidate has 237 of the 270 electoral votes in their column with spending little or no money.

For that, I am sure to surrender Texas.

It is time you went on the library tour with Agent, nuff sed and yawn. When you read a little more and stop listening to Rush “Pillsbury Boy” Limbaugh, you will stop making inane comments on this website.

Gee 102, I must be getting color blind. I could have sworn the map on election night was bright red with all the House, Senate, Governors, State Houses & Senates races being called early in the evening for Republicans. Pelosi lost 15 more seats, Reid lost his majority leadership (thank God)with loss of at least 9 seats after Landrieu is sent packing. I think the tide has turned now and Progressive liberalism is on the run after all the lies and deceit came out on their plots and horrible governance nationwide. Even Libby voted Republican this time which is a huge shock.

    4th Marriage……
A woman who had been married three times walked into a bridal shop one day and told the sales clerk that she was looking for a wedding gown for her fourth wedding.
“Of course, madam,” replied the sales clerk, “exactly what type and color dress are you looking for?”
The bride to be said, “A long frilly white dress with a veil.”
The sales clerk hesitated a bit, then said, “Please don’t take this the wrong way, but gowns of that nature are considered more appropriate for brides who are being married the first time – for those who are a bit more innocent, if you know what I mean? Perhaps ivory or sky blue would be nice?”
“Well,” replied the customer, a little peeved at the clerk’s directness, “I can assure you that a white gown would be quite appropriate. Believe it or not, despite all my marriages, I remain as innocent as a first-time bride. You see, my first husband was so excited about our wedding, he died as we were checking into our honey moon hotel. My second husband and I got into such a terrible fight in the limo on our way to our honeymoon hotel that we had that wedding annulled immediately and never spoke to each other again.”
“What about your third husband?” asked the sales clerk.
“That one was a Democrat,” said the woman, “and every night for four years, he just sat on the edge of the bed and told me how good it was going to be — but nothing ever happened.”

      Marriage Customs….
For centuries, Hindu women have worn a dot on their foreheads. Most of us have naively thought this was connected with tradition or religion, but the Indian embassy in Ottawa has revealed the true story.

When an Indian woman gets married, she brings a dowry into the union. On her wedding night, the husband gets to scratch off the dot to see if he won a convenience store, a gas station, a donut shop, a taxi cab or a motel in the US. If nothing is underneath, he must remain in India to answer phones and provide Verizon technical support.

Wow! I guess Mikey Rooker and you are the clear cut favorite for the most culturally ignorant and naive comments of the year.

As someone who is of East Indian origin, the engineer who designed the computer, mobile phone, etc which you sent your message was probably Indian. If you look at companies like Apple and Google (who could both become TRILLION dollar value companies with regard to valuation), these entities have such a large number of Indian employees they have a cafeteria on their corporate campuses that only makes Indian food (whether vegetarian or non-vegetarian and with options ranging from Gujurati, Kerala, Punjabi to cusine from Andrha Pradesh). Before you embarass yourself again, look where these places are on a map.

These companies view it not as a cost but as an investment to attract and keep the best talent at their company.

As far as other professions, I hope you do not get sick. If you do, the doctor that treats you stands a fairly good chance to be East Indian or from the Indian subcontinent.

By the way, your Bears seem to have righted the ship and won their second in a row. Dallas and Denver barely squeaked by the Giants and Miami. Did you see the catch Odell Beckham, Jr made on Dallas? The announcers said it was the greatest catch they ever saw, one handed and pretty much impossible since he was interfered with on the play. I guess you are slightly ahead of Freedom, Bob and FFAfor the most inept and least intelligent poster on Insurance Journal.

Wow. Are you still one of the birthers that hold on to the fact that Obama was born in Kenya? The Donald has even withdrawn this farce of a request. Information revealed to the Donald and well before clearly show that he was born in Hawaii. This was after Hawaii became the 50th state in the Union!

If you are a birther, what are your thoughts about Ted “Calgary” Cruz? Mr Cruz wants to run for President, but he was born in Calgary. However, he is an American citizen as his mother was an American citizen at the time of his birth. Any thoughts?

As for travelling to Pakistan, Obama did travel to Pakistan before becoming President. He travelled as a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee!

As far as his education records being sealed, Obama served as editor of the Harvard Law Review. In order to be eligible for the Harvard Law Review, one must be in the top 5-7% of their class. After this, they are selected on basis of a scholarly article. I don’t know Mikey. But one who is at the top of their class at Harvard law school and can write a scholarly article that can be accepted in front of some of the most talented law faculty in the world sounds pretty impressive to me.

Yes, I saw some of the Bears game while we were preparing dinner. Detroit is a good team, but there is something lacking with the Bears. I think they made a mistake getting rid of Lovie after he had success. I am assuming you are referring to the SF Harbaugh rather than the Baltimore Harbaugh. Either Harbaugh would be an upgrade to Trestman. They are probably a few good draft choices and a good coach away from contending.
