Quotation marks imply sarcasm when they are not being used to make a direct quote. Think of it like this – it’s has the same meaning here as it does when people say something in real life and make the air quotation marks with their fingers.

I think you missed my point.

My post was a post that was mostly stating your “thank you” comment was just really not in good taste.

It wasn’t hip, clever, or a good form of sarcasm.

I was in serious question of your ability to use ” ” effectively. Saying “Thank you” to tell someone sarcastically thank you for being insulted is not exactly the way I see ” ” being used effectively.

It’s called irony punctuation and it was used correctly.

“Thank you” for saying my use of irony punctuation marks was done in poor taste yet completely ignoring the fact that another person was literally talking about having things shoved up his anal cavity.

Talking about things going up a bum was posted in good taste yet sarcasm indicated with quotes is done in bad taste.

            Suuuuure, that makes “perfect” sense.

Ask anyone who is a Redskin fan if they think it is objectionable. By the way, look at the face on the uniform of the Atlanta Braves or Cleveland Indians sometime. It is as red as can be. Could they have just used a tan face instead. I don’t know any Indians with red faces.

The issue with the Nazi’s use of it was not the word itself, but that they made Jews wear a “scarlet letter.” Nazi’s forced the Jews to wear the Star of David too, but that image is not a slur just like Juden is not a slur. By the way, last fall, the “Redskins” were playing a game in Arizona and the owner had a local Indian chief in his box watching the game. He had no problem with the team name. Your friends are in the minority.

“They’ve never asked Native Americans,” Chippewa Cree tribesman Wade Colliflower explain “It’s somebody else who knows nothing about us trying to speak for us. It’s kind of an insult.”

John Warren, Chairman of the Pokagon Band of the Potawatomi, in Michigan and Indiana: “To me, I look at it as a part of an old, institutionalized racism.”

Herb Stevens, director of the San Carlos Apache Cultural Center: “It’s an honor to be recognized as being ‘Native,’ but not to be called a redskin.”

John Bush, Ph.D. in education, Vice Chair of the San Carlos Apache Tribe: “If most people would research, they would understand it’s very negative, and maybe they would take a different approach

“We found opponents of the name in 18 tribes: veterans of the U.S. military, lawyers, college students, cultural center employees, school volunteers and restaurant servers. Their viewpoints align with official statements from dozens of tribes or inter-tribal councils and from the NCAI, which represents more than 250 tribal governments at the Embassy of Tribal Nations. Many of these people wondered how, or if, their voices are being counted.”

Rosenblatt, I can’t believe you really said that the Nazi’s didn’t mean Judan/Jews as a slur and a sign of persecution. They wanted every German to know that the Jews were to be shunned and persecuted and it was effective. Then, the roundups started and they were shipped off to be exterminated. Give it a rest. You are on the wrong side of what really went on.

I agree the Nazi’s use of that term was a sign of persecution BACK THEN. RIGHT NOW, Jews do not equate “Juden” with racism.

If a Neo-Nazi yelled “hey Juden” while holding a picture of Hitler today, then it is a racist term again. If one Jew turns to another and says “Hi Juden” = no racism. This is 100% comparable to the N-word white people can’t use today.

PS – My family grew up in both Poland and Germany during that time period and my grandparents emigrated to the US to avoid the Nazi’s taking more of our family off to Concentration Camps.

I will believe my family’s first-hand experiences about what life was really like back then for Jews before I agree with your gut of what it MIGHT HAVE been like for our people.

Care to apologize for saying a Jewish person was on the wrong side of what really went on in WW2 in Germany? Or do you really think I’m backing the Nazi’s here?

I don’t have first hand knowledge of what Jewish families went through during the war years Rosenblatt, but I have read quite a bit and I also watch the Military Channel who often has actual footage of what it was like, showed Jews being loaded onto trains and actually showed the concentration camps, ovens, piled bodies etc. It was the worst case of man’s inhumanity to man in history. Some on the left try to deny the holocaust and said it never happened. There is just too much documentation. I am glad your family got out so you would be here today. I still believe the Nazi’s meant Juden as a slur and an identification to persecute Jews.
