Does anyone remember the legal term “Assumption of Risk”? Were any players coerced into signing a contract to play a violent sport and have the possibility that one play could end their career? How much is enough on this settlement?

I expect you to ignore this, because it has facts, and you exist in a world of pure imagination. Assumption of risk is irrelevant here. The players, through individual lawsuits, challenged the NFL on concussions. When the union pressured them the NFL lied, and created false studies showing there were no real long-term dangers due to concussions. Their assumption of risk was based on wildly incorrect, and fraudulent information.

In a nation where we pay our sports heroes millions of dollars for entertainment and our first responders and educators less than poverty level salaries in most cases, this settlement is one more reason for other countries to laugh at the silly Americans who have it all backward. We are often our own worst enemy.

I am afraid the millions we pay sports stars on guaranteed contracts is the most stupid of all. How many times have we seen a star sign for $100 million for 5 years and $60 million plus guaranteed, then get hurt and not play for half or more of the season, then come back and not play at a high level. They also get ripped off by financial advisors and lose their money. I suppose this suit may be a way to get them back in the big money.

You are astoundingly uninformed on almost every topic you write about. It is truly incredible. The NFL does not have guaranteed contracts. Most of the players who are suffering from these concussions are not able to function day-to-day, also, most of the players in these leagues have careers that average 3 years. They don’t make tens of millions of dollars.

Of course, like always, you think the owners should get the money, despite doing almost nothing, because you are just wrong on absolutely everything.

According to the formula the settlement gave me I got credit for 1.5 seasons in this settlement. I was diagnosed 4 yrs before this court case even came up…….I was in coma for a week and then one yr late again for another week. I went through tests for months and the diagnosis was CTE before any of this case was heard of. I an 70 yrs old and when I played I got $15,000.00 one year and $18,000.00 the next, that was higher than most of the team members that I played with. The jokers that play now pay more taxes every week than we made in a whole season. The level of hard hits in the late 60’s and early 70’s that we endured was exponentially worse than the pansies that play now take. This whole case is nothing but a sham…..look at what the lawyers are going to get…..I really do not want their money but I do want the NFL to be exposed for the no good crooks that they are and always have been. Thank God I walked away my third year and went to graduate school and did not play longer.

small edit to your comment, UW: football contracts do have guaranteed values, but the entire contract is not guaranteed. In football, you’ll hear “5 years, $100M contract, with only $20M guaranteed” whereas baseball would be “5 years, $100M contract, fully $100M guaranteed.”

Then again, I can see why you didn’t get that far into the details since you were dealing with Agent who has an issue comprehending even the most simplest of things (insure vs. ensure, arguing progressive’s flo is a non-fictional character, thinking the US hasn’t bombed ISIL targets, etc.)
