I have no idea if the song was taken or not but question why the law would allow the estate to make a claim this long after the event. It just makes no sense to me.

Jury has ruled. Led Zepplin did not steal the song.

Can anyone tell me why the statute of limitations wouldn’t apply in a case such as this?

Per the article: “a 2014 U.S. Supreme Court decision that allows for copyright infringement lawsuits after years of delay.”

Per an article with Business Insider: “They are legally allowed to bring it up now because Led Zeppelin reissued ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ so there was a new master recording created [and] they got around the statute of limitations that way,” Josh Kaplan, a lawyer and manager of musicians, told Business Insider.

The suit was filed in 2014.
