No trying to excuse Volkswagon, but why hasn’t the government taken the same initiative against all car manufacters who installed Takata air bags in their vehicles? People are getting seriously injured and even killed. Why doesn;t the Justice Department demand all Takata equipped vehicles be bought back, or at least replaced with safe rental cars until the dangerous airbag detenators are replaced? Seems to me that VW is getting unfair, selective punishment.

VW is getting what they deserve. I wonder if Angela Merkel will bail them out like Obama did GM & Chrysler. GM more or less skated on the ignition key deal. Should have been more harsh, but look who bailed them out during tough times.

Sure the dangerous airbags should have been replaced. Perhaps the production of safe airbags has lagged. Dealers are also overwhelmed.

My 2014 Jetta TDI lost half of it’s value immediately upon the news release. Meaning if it’s totaled by someone running a stoplight etc. I loose BIG Time (over $12K) because insurance will only give the current “book value”. Thus I still owe the bank and have to find a replacement too! / I bought the car for the fuel mileage and performance. If VW “fixs” it, it will have neither! Hope October has good news to help get us into a tough Winter!

Ned, I wonder if GAP Insurance would have helped you or would have an exclusion for this type of thing.
