I really don’t mind if somebody perishes because they had to take their luggage despite orders not to (Darwinism, etal.) but it would piss me off to no end if their actions led to deaths of any fellow passengers.

Dave, to a cell addict, it is like a death sentence to leave their smart phone behind. Hey, they can get out there, video it all and send out texts all day long to friends and relatives.

I usually keep my cell phone in my back pocket so it would go with me, but be ruined in a water landing.

        Agent,

Since you are an advocate of rotary style phones and practice a “hands free” lifestyle, where exactly do you keep your phone, and if it is where I think it would be, do you leave it on vibrate? Does bluetooth work both inside and outside the body? Pray tell!

Maybe airlines need to consider a locking mechanism for overhead luggage during emergencies. And maybe the airlines bring part of it on themselves by charging for luggage.

I like the idea of locking the luggage compartments in an emergency. An announcement could be made that says that any emergency medical devices, supplies or medications should NOT be kept in the overhead compartment, as it WILL lock automatically in the event of an emergency.

Or maybe they should charge for the convenience of carry on and allow check in for free. Way too much is carried in on planes nowadays making boarding and unboarding a royal pain.

Overhead bins also contain items flight attendants need to access during an emergency.

Are we talking about only what is in overhead bins, or the purse I have at my feet…..I would like to think there is a difference.

In an emergency ANY luggage or bag being carried off the plane impedes getting people off the plane. Nothing in your bag is worth the one or two human lives possibly wasted because you had to carry your damn bag. Doesn’t matter where it comes from, it impedes your ability and ALL of those behind you to get off the plane quickly and safely. Got that?

You can yell and be indignant all you want, but human nature will win out. People will try to take things they regard as valuable. Any workable solution needs to take this into account and not pretend that sweet reason or unenforceable threats will solve this problem.

There is no difference. I believe regulations require an airplane to be fully deplaned in 90 seconds.

In a real emergency, your taking 2 seconds to grab your purse might mean someone behind you dies in a fire.

Your purse strap could get caught on something like an armrest, and that could cost someone their life.

No one should be put in that position because someone selfishly valued a purse or a backpack over their life.

This proves that no one takes the “your luggage may have shifted during a crash landing” missive seriously.

In an emergency,All bags & luggage taken off the plane by passengers are to be destroyed immediately on site.

In the interest of safety airlines should eliminate overhead bins. Problem solved!~

I kinda agree, but understand the need to carry certain items on. Just think people should be charged for it due to all the inconvenience they provide for all else.

They do charge plenty (except for Southwest), but carry on (especially big carry on) is so disruptive boarding and unboarding a plane that I believe they should be punished, rather than encouraged by making carry on free and charging for checked. Should be the other way around. And speaking of charging, I’ve always felt people should be charged by how much weight they bring on the plane including themselves.

So the guy who weighs 300 should have the same fare as two 150 lb people? That will not go over well with the liberal crowd.

Agent, did you hear David Cross’ theory on why God allowed ‘Merica to have welcomed access to the weapons necessary to take 20 elementary school lives? First, he made a good point. We have to use our thumbs to unlock our PHONES but nothing for those said weapons I speak about above.

Now, to return to the theory. And you aren’t going to like it. I didn’t like it. I don’t like it. But, it is a theory. So, perhaps those 20 kids were murdered to help supply the 72 virgins for an ISIS terrorist. Want to help with sensible gun controls yet?

Let put this way, many passengers might have kept important documents in the compartment above so when they are told to leave everything behind and just
leave the plane. They are worried they might find difficulties later with the authorities. The passengers must be informed that they will be taken care
