Could it be that if we as a nation would quit wasting money on pork barrel projects, the funding of the resolution of this major problem could be resolved? I also always find it ironic that the government can have facilities of this type putting everyone at risk and nothing gets done. But let a private enterprise leak just a miniscule amount of a toxic substance and the EPA would be all over them.

Hey feds start playing by your own rules for a change.

The sky is not indeed falling. The Hanford reservation is rapidly being decommissioned; old buildings removed, reactors stripped and cocooned. The Purex facility, where the tunnel collapse occurred, is on the short list.
The pernicious problem on the site is the millions of gallons of liquid waste for which a long-term solution is years to come. Getting the Yucca Mountain, AZ waste site completed needs to be a high priority.
These various facilities don’t easily compare as they function differently and are in various states of active or inactive use.

“…apply the best technology to it”, i.e., bury it in a hole in the ground and wait a million years.
