Any company testing self-driving cars must be registered and approved by the state. All assisted driving cars must have a driver behind the wheel, not distracted, and ready to take control of the car. If their hands are more than 2 inches from the wheel the car will begin to slow and go to the side of the road where it will shutdown. No cars will be allowed for passenger use if they aren’t electric. No federal or state dollars will go to infrastructure changes to aide these cars.

There, I wrote 90% of the needed regulations. These things aren’t close to working, and won’t be for 20+ years, if ever. Don’t let them grift public money, spend it on better public transportation projects.

OK< these are your rules for "assisted driving " cars. What about "self driving" cars. I think that is more of the gist of the article.

My fear here is that we are about to let the "perfect" get into the way of the much, much better. If self driving cars help reduce fatalities by 50% or more but are not perfect, what is wrong with that? What would you say to the family of one of the 20,000 lives that was not saved because of seeking perfection?
