These are the same people who feel safer in a car than a plane even though 40,000 die in car accidents every year and in a bad year 500 die in plan accidents. What’s incredible is that self driving cars are probably 10 times safer than human driven cars.

Agreed Dave. I, for one, am ready for it. I actually hate driving. But, how expensive are they going to be when they first come out….that is the question. They will probably be out of reach for the normal middle class consumer I am afraid.

I don’t where you get your information. But out of 30 people I spoke to 29 of them are ready and excited for it. Also, my mom who cant drive needs this to happen yesterday. Stop posting made up stories in your head. Please. Thank you

That’s funny. I have spoken to dozens in the past year and not one is excited about turning the wheel over to sensors. Most people do like to drive, by the way.

Would you rather have self driving cars or those young whippersnappers who are always playing on their phones behind the wheel?

          This should be interesting…

It’s the classic conservative battle of fear of progress vs. those darn whippersnappers!

It’s not always the young people who are texting while driving. There have been numerous times I passed a vehicle and saw that the driver was a 40+ adult looking down at his/her phone.

Agreed Jameson – although Agent has only railed against the young kids on their phones so that is why I focused on them.

Agent – would you rather have self driving cars or inattentive drivers of any age playing on their phones while “driving”? Me – I’ll take the self driving cars, thank you very much.

The guy that rear-ended me at a stoplight last month was on his phone texting when he did it. Hopped right out of his brand new Jeep Wrangler, no shoes on, and says, “Sorry man, I was looking at my phone and I thought you were moving”

Dude lived in a nice house (I looked it up afterwards on the county assesors page) and by all means was a well-educated, successful person, but a total idiot at 47 to be driving around staring at his phone. I am lucky he was only going 30ish or so, and that I didn’t have my kids in my car with me at the time.

And that is the problem with small, non-random surveys. Your results are a function of your social circles and where you reside. I would say the people I talk to mirror the results of the survey in the article. Unlike “just a mom” I love to drive and as long as I am physically able to drive safely, I have no interest in this technology. But then again, I don’t live in L.A. or D.C. or Boston or another area with gridlock traffic.

I know I enjoy driving and don’t want to give it up at this point in my life. At some point I may need to give it up and then I’ll be ready. At 80 I’ll need something similar to a Grand Marquis version of the self-driving car as that seems to be the car my grandparents always drove. JK

I do not need any ” education” about driverless cars. I do not want them and know they are not safe. The automakers need to stop forcing this crap pn people . I cant understand why they are doing it ?
