Wait for it: slap on the wrists is the worst thing that will happen to these scoundrels. Most likely: pay a tiny fine that is a fraction of the financial gain you swindled by selling your stocks knowing full well what the impact of the hack would be.

Why the heck isn’t the default for all of them to temporarily freeze accounts during this kind of blunder? Equifax said my data was likely part of it but to this day I can’t get it frozen!!!!!

You’re right Doug, a writs spanking will be about it.

You would think they were politicians they get off so easy.

This is why I got Life Lock a few years ago. Too much data in too many places that I have no control over. I’d think I’d be able to get a royalty whenever they sell any of my info to marketers, researchers, etc. Still waiting for that check.

The question I have is this: Knowing the sensitivity of this data, and knowing that they are a massive target for hackers; why the heck was the data not encrypted? Passwords, anti-malware software, monitoring, firewalls, these are all good FIRST STEPS, but the real key to protecting data is to make sure that if someone does steal it, that they cannot read it.

We have seen many, many cases of hacking. Health Insurance companies like Blue Cross and others with all that sensitive health info as well as Socials etc. A determined smart hacker can get into anyones info and do damage.
