The tax seems like a good idea but anyone arguing that this increase will NOT ultimately be passed to consumers is kidding themselves.

I know why they did it and I already wrote that it seems like a good idea. Not sure why you said that.

Do you agree or disagree that if this increase goes through, the companies will just pass on the extra cost to their consumers?

Ever heard of competition? That is the basis of Capitalism. Pass on the costs and run business off. Economics 101.

            “Pass on the costs…”

So … you agree with my original post then?

Nope. This is not a static situation. The pass through will eventually, if not immediately result in a change in behavior to lower the taxation incurred. Do you want to risk a guess as to what those actions would be to avoid the punitive and behavior persuading tax?

As stated in the article by several GLOBAL cos.(Pfizer, Apple, and Ford), they don’t have a definitive opinion on the 20% tax in question.

The article title is biased in referring to the “unfathomable” and similar comments by an industry LOBBYING GROUP, Coalition for Competitive Insurance Rates (whose members include Swiss Re, Munich Re, and Allianz Re) whereas many domestic US cos. know this tax is intended to help US-only regional cos. with no overseas presence.

Raise your hand so people in your office can see you, or reply in detail, with an explanation, as to why you may think an industry LOBBYING group has an impartial opinion.

Of course there are cost pass-backs associated with a legislative bill intended to curb an undesirable business practice. Duh! The consumers of such products or service will eventually ‘vote’ with their money, shifting to providers of lower cost products or services. In turn, less expatriation of domestic capital will occur IN THE FUTURE after some / all of the cost pass-backs make their way to those consumers.

Several cos. are still studying the issue, whereas the LOBBYING Groups already have opined on it. Which analyses do you trust more? Yeah; me too! I’ll wait for a more thorough analysis.
