The problem is this: a machine gun is legally defined as any firearm that shoots continuously from one action of the trigger, Or any part that modifies a weapon to do so. A bump stock does not do this. The way a bump stock works is it allows the recoil of the firearm to push your finger off of the trigger and when the recoil is finished, your finger engages the triger again. This means there is a separate action of the trigger for every round fired. A bump stock does not even legally modify a weapon, as it does nothing to change the mechanics of how the weapon functions. With enough practice, any shooter can fire faster then a bump stock will allow someone to shoot. (and several competition shooters can shoot far faster without aid).
Bump stocks are a plastic gimmick designed to cash in on the “bump fire” trend that any shooter can do using a belt loop, or hair tie. Anyone can still “bump fire” a firearm without a bump stock.
But, if someone did want a bump stock, even if the ban goes through, the stl files that enable you to 3D print bump stocks at home are readily available online for free.

The legal definition of machine gun is irrelevant. The achieved effect of bump stocks is the only significant consideration. Someone pointed out that BS’s were devised to enable disabled firearm users to achieve multi-round firing action out of single-round arms. I’m not sure if that reason of origin is correct.

“The legal definition of machine gun is irrelevant.” Wrong. That’s extremely relevant to the debate of any type of law, regulation, bill, executive order, etc.

Wrong. The relevant issue of the debate is the effect of each gun in the hands of responsible users versus unstable lunatics. The definition of a machine gun could easily change. So, as I said; it’s irrelevant.

Would you agree that if the definition of a machine gun gets changed that it will likely have an effect on what firearms and add-ons are considered legal?

The definition of ‘machine gun’ won’t change. Rabbit hole. SCOTUS would get involved if that were legislated by Dems, if they gain control of any branch of govt.

DNC, the definition of affordable changed. Why not Machine Gun?

Don’t think the Broward Coward would have been effective stopping a shooter since he was hiding outside and heard the shots going off inside.

Even inside the school, there’s no guarantee a person with a gun will use it responsibly

“A California teacher who also serves as a reserve police officer reportedly injured three students on Tuesday after he accidentally fired his weapon during a lesson on gun safety.”

Everyone can find the one example where something went wrong.

But the proposed solutions so far – outside of armed protection on campus – are ludicrous.

Does anyone seriously believe banning guns of any type will stop the next mass shooting? The FBI statistics indicate that the average number of people killed annually with a semi-automatic rifle is 18. The FBI statistics for homicides using a handgun: over 6,000.

When or when are people going to use their brains? This would be laughable – solutions that solve nothing – except for the consequences.

If you aren’t proposing something that would actually stop a mass shooting, please stop talking.

Davis brings u the point that if they are illegal, will we end up with the desired results? If they can be “printed” from a 3d printer and they are deemed illegal, 3 D Printer sales would naturally go up. ,
