I have found that acupuncture works best. It is instant relief with fewer flare ups. I have also received the best instructions on how to keep limber thus keeping things from tightening up. It is only 60.00 per session. In the beginning I went for for ten straight appointments, but had been bed bound and not functioning for quite a while, I had been going downhill for weeks. I was shocked at well Acupuncture worked, no one in the medical profession suggested I go there, instead I had been handed over to pain management and was living the life of pain accompanied with medications that also disabled me as I could not drive or do much due to exhaustion. I suggest anyone with chronic pain to go this route. I heard about acupuncture being the most effective treatment for back pain from a news video clip.

Nope. I was correct and intended to write what I wrote.

Acupuncture isn’t addictive, and won’t result in car crashes, injuries, deaths, loss of cognitive ability in mid-life years, and scromitting(sp?). Big Pharma is only partly to blame for meds abuse. Doctors unable to control scripts are partly to blame. Let’s start a national scripts registry, …. sorta like the national gun registry that Liberals have been calling for, for decades.

I also had significant back issues (degenerative disk disease w/ bulging disc impinging on sciatic nerve) and found acupuncture to be a total waste of my time. I went to 3 different acupuncturists and nothing they did worked. Some people swore by chiropractors too, so I tried a couple and didn’t get any relief. What worked for me was strengthening my core and being mindful of how I twist my body.

My point is: what may work for some people is no guarantee that it will work the same way for everyone else.

You need to treat the source of pain, not only the symptoms. Med advances allow replacement of damaged disks with ‘super-plastic’ disks. Good luck, and good health to you. I hope you are eligible for a replacement.

Acupuncture and chiropractic care is not a valid form of treatment, sorry to say.

People can downvote me all they want, but a ridiculous amount of studies have shown these “treatments” are at most temporary, and may not even work on a temporary basis.

This despite loving to be “adjusted.” It feels great but does nothing in the long term to correct acute problems. Most instances of “cures” as a result of acupuncture, acupressure, chiropractic, blood-letting, leeches, humors-balancing, voodoo doll pin-removing, and so on is just psychosomatic or dumb luck.

Get rid of Big Pharma’s profit motives, or cap their profit margins, and reward them for discovering new effective treatments and you may actually see miracles being done. They employ some of the smartest people on the planet, but are 100% driven by a desire to make money, not the desire to make someone feel better. There is a reason they spend several times more money each year on advertising than they do on clinical research…

Remember Dr. Winchester on MASH (RIP recently)? His back in one episode was “out” and the Koreans, under order from C. Potter, I believe, did acupuncture on him, and it worked, and he gladly ate medical crow!

We had a chiropractor who also did acupuncture. He finally sent me to get a muscle relaxant, skelaxin, and that helped more than anything.

Back pain, along with arthritis, is the worst, most debilitating pain, in my humble opinion.

My neighbor told me once that when you get up from a sitting position, to always put your hands on your knees while you stand up; it seemed to help the lower back from going out.

I am a 53 year old female and have suffered with debilitating spinal issues for close to 15 years due to degenerative disk disease. I had my cervical spine fused about 12 years ago due to an obliterated cervical disk herniation. Within 4 months of my surgery, two of my siblings had the same surgery. One has also had to have lumbar surgery. I am trying hard to avoid that as she does not feel it was all that successful. I have bulging disks in all levels of my spine, with varying degrees of pain. I do not take any opiods, have tried PT and acupuncture faithfully – to no avail. I agree completely with “Rosenblatt”. What works for some may not work for another. I basically just deal with it – am in pain every day but pretty much keep on keeping on. Would give anything to have a day without pain. One suggestion is zero gravity floats – 90 minutes being absolutely pain free (but little carryover effect). I would absolutely try medical marijuana if it wouldn’t risk my handgun permit.

DNC’s, every back case is different. Surgeon’s are always eager to operate and often it doesn’t do the job. My wife’s 5 surgeries without much relief is my proof.

However, Tiger Woods, after 4 surgeries is now swinging 129 MPH again, because his fusion apparently worked.

I agree with you that every back case is different, but I don’t agree that just because it happened to one person (your wife) that is sufficient proof that surgery often doesn’t do the job. 1 data point does not make a valid sample size.

Agent (and DNC, for that matter)
if, after all those surgeries and numerous medication attempts, your wife (or loved one, in DNC’s case, I don’t know if he’s married) was able to find relief through medicinal pot, would it change your opinion about it, or is your mind made up permanently?

BTW–I am very sorry for everything she is going through. It’s harder to watch someone you love in pain than it is to be in pain yourself. You and I do not agree on much, with the exception of sports and insurance, but I don’t wish ill on either you or DNC.

No condescension here, but some puzzlement:

I don’t believe that being able to carry a handgun is worth living in pain, but that is just me.

I have had family members turn to medical marijuana while going through intense recoveries from surgeries related to cancer and have found it to be a lifesaver. Some who were on the end of their rope, so to speak, felt good enough to live vastly improved lives while taking cannabis.

Depending on which state you live in, you may consider trying it. It wouldn’t be hard to get a prescription and after trying it, you may find your handgun to be a ridiculous thing you put more value on.

Marijuana isn’t an addictive drug and won’t turn you into some sort of wasteoid, either, regardless of what a few ill-informed posters here would say. I have never used it, but millions of high-functioning Americans do, including some of the smartest, most well-regarded inventors and titans of industry, and they don’t seem to have suffered any ill-effects.

Define how many is “many” so I know if it is a valid sample size. Let me know if all those people got back surgery and how many people said after surgery that it didn’t help their pain. Otherwise we’re right back where we started — your only data point is your wife’s unfortunate situation.

Let’s say that only 10 million out of 540 million got surgery and it didn’t correct the problem. Is that a big enough sample size to suit you? Give us a study to prove your point, otherwise keep your posts to yourself.

You should follow your own advice about keeping to yourself. That is not a sample size. The 540 refers to the population and no the overall sample size, which is important to draw the conclusions you are making because having just your wife as a sample size is insignificant and does not reflect upon the whole population. I am attempting to show the difference between reality and what you were pushing. You cannot make up a sample size because that refers to a study that takes a certain size.

You are mistaking sample size for the population, common mistake. Sample size is the data you are actually using while population, the 540 million, would be the overall affected by it. I could be mistaken and you could mean the study used a total sample of 540 million, but that is very difficult to actually accomplish and I have not read a study with that many in a sample size.

I believe you are in Wisconsin or Illinois (can’t remember), but both states have made it legal, but are waiting until the FDA regulates it before it will allow sales. My advice: book yourself a ticket to Colorado, enjoy the #1 city in America (Denver), and take a suitcase home with you :P. Yes she has. At times, its the greatest things she can do. Other times, just a waste. She gets in these cycles where she has a really good day and then over does it. Then she is down for the count for days / weeks at a time.

Il has it but Wi is still in process. Our Gov is one to try things to improve quality of life for the general population. This was brought up by one of our state legislatures whos. kids suffers from sever seizures. I’ve seen videos of kids having these extreme seizures being brought out of it by just one drop of oil. It is time for this to be recognized as a valid form of pain management and for the people that have seizures.

I know someone that was diagnosed terminal with cancer two + years ago. He did this mix of pot & ever clear and one other ingredient. Cooked it into a paste and spread it on a cracker. 2+ years later, he is 99% cancer free. A little worse for the wear, but still alive and enjoying his gr kids.

Anyways, I don’t need to go to Colorado. Its readily available every where. I just don’t buy a felony. .
