“The explosion at the West Texas fertilizer plant killed 15 people, including 12 firefighters. Scores of others were injured and more than 500 homes were damaged in the blast, with total damaged estimated at more than $100 million.”

To which today’s Republican Party raises a middle finger. Strike that. Raises both middle fingers.

Captain do you realize that explosion is still being investigated as a criminal act? of course you don’t. Probably not a result of the plants owners if it was a criminal act, and could not have been prevented by EPA regulations. The cause of the initial fire that caused the explosion is unknown. The BATF announced in May 2016 that the fire had been deliberately set.

But wasn’t the real issue a gigantic amount of the explosive chemical(s) stored there, far in excess of the guidelines would permit?

Wouldn’t the potential cause be totally independent of the VOLUME of explosives present? Of course, you can state the SEVERITY might be less, which is a trivial observation. But, with no ‘match’ or ‘spark’, there is no fire in any volume of combustible materials.

That’s right, Gork. They were storing far to much AN. They didn’t care about the guidelines and didn’t have the foresight to think about how close they were to residents, the schools, and other businesses. Some of that tragedy could have been avoided had they followed the guidelines.

Yes, perplexed, I know there is an ongoing criminal investigation. We have followed this story closely as our niche is commercial agribusiness.

if you throw a whole book of lit matches into a fire pit, it will increase the potential of you successfully starting a fire as compared to you throwing a single lit match into the pit.

Neither of you understand the difference between varying volumes of combustible material and a source of ignition. You must believe explosions in space look as they do as depicted in movies and TV, right? Truth is they cannot occur without oxygen and a source of ignition. You must have failed physics / science classes in school.

            Yogi,
You obviously have no clue about the requirements for AN storage. I’m happy to help educate you and have provided a link for you to peruse. Now, once you reach a critical mass of this stuff, you MUST get the Dept of Homeland Security involved and need to have a certificate as well as letter evidencing you have met the requirements. Unless, of course, you flat out ignore all of that. Then, you just have the potential to blow up your town is all.

Trump wants to roll back anything that has Obama’s name on it no matter how harmful it may be to us. Wish he understood what he is doing but, sadly, he has no clue and his advisors are not giving him good advice or he is not listening to them….probably the later.

Wrong. Your use of the word ‘anything’ is hyperbole and a lie. Hence, it is a ‘hyperbolie’ (sic).
You’re also wrong about Trump understanding what he is doing. He has advisors who ARE experts in the topics of his executive decisions. If you claim they are giving him alternate advice, name those specific advisors and give us a link to their comments. If you state their names, we can all see that they are NOT his advisors. Your side has hyperbole with no substantive facts or data, hence it is purely politically motivated obstructionist actions and discourse.

You are right on point, Alice. He can’t stand President Obama so he has to try and do whatever he can to attempt to tarnish his legacy. Problem is, President Obama’s character and persona cannot be eliminated – something Tramp can’t live up to himself. Problem with Tramp is, he doesn’t have a moral compass like President Obama does. Tramp’s principles are rooted in greed, ego, and self-centeredness. The man behaves like a psychopath. He has no empathy. And, he is allergic to the truth.

It is how The Donald works. You don’t just win, you eliminate and destroy the loser. Go back and look at the video of when Obama was mocking Drumph during the Washington Correspondents dinner; furious. He made up his mind right there and then. Total mobster approach; send a message and wipe everyone out.

Wrong. Obama was wrong for punishing business other than ‘Green Energy’ and a few others in specific industries that support Socialist politicians. Trump is correcting the punishment levied by O, to MAGA.

            confused,
You are correct – there are many watchdog type detection systems they could have installed. They also shouldn’t have been storing this much AN. Most of the standard markets are walking away from this exposure. It’s absolutely astonishing how much some of these companies flat out ignore safety. I had one prospect that told me their plan for an injured or killed worker is to hire a new one. Needless to say, I chose not to partner with them. In the world of severity, safety should be the top priority.
