Bayer closed a $63 billion Monsanto takeover recently and is dropping the Monsanto name. I wonder why they would do that?
Another gift from living better through chemistry. There is much evidence that these chemicals in RoundUp are, indeed, strongly implicated as tetragens among young children and carcinogens. OH, and by the way, they are mainly responsible for colony collapse of pollinating bees which are crucial to one third of our plant food production. Monsanto has a huge stake in this since their GMO corn and soybean seeds have been modified to be resistant to RoundUp. Mother nature is striking back, however, as certain weeds are developing resistance the old fashioned way…natural selection.Monsanto has sued farmers for seed saving do farmers have to buy GMO seeds from them every year.
The Obama administration EPA had an order to phase RoundUp out due to the carcinogenic and tetragenic issues. As part of their regulatory rollback that s”ands in the way of business profitability” Trump’s chump, Pruitt has expunged that order. Other orders expunged deal with now allowing mines to dump mine tailings and refuse into streams regardless of the fact that citizens get their drinking water downstream; not implementing stricter standards on coal fired power plants that spew particulate pollution into the air causing asthma, lung cancers, COPD, linked to autism, male infertility, Alzheimer’s (estimated 21% of Alzheimer’s caused by particulate pollution which comes from burning fossil fuels), and premature death of elderly (60 million to die prematurely if current levels maintained). This info has been published within the last 9 or so months in scientific and medical journals, scientific monographs from our most respected universities.
And so, while the media maunders on and on with breast shots of stormy and the clown routines of Giuliani and Trump, we get no front page news about the poisoning of ourselves, our children and our environment. Ain’t it grand how Trump is facilitating business profits?
So, if you wonder where the fruit and flowers have gone, the monarch butterflies and other important pollinators and the birds that feed on them, you can thank our Imperial President for making America polluted again…and kowtowing to the ever larger merging super companies…to big to control. MAGA (gasp, gasp, gasp).
Would have expected more commentary here. While we are weeping for children separated from their parents at the southern border, we are silent on the slow environmental poisoning of our own.
Glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, was first approved for use in Monsanto’s weed killer in 1974. 44 years of this stuff out there. Seems like lots administrations have been around in that time on both sides. Hopefully the courts and experts can determine this stuff needs to be removed from society. Sounds like Monsanto knows it is a problem. I am sure none of their executives use it regularly.
I wish Mr. Johnson all the luck in the world in this case. I hope he lives to see it through to a just verdict. Let’s do to Monsanto what we have failed to do to the tobacco industry for killing us and/or making us chronically ill. May this trial be the first of many nails in the coffin of Monsanto/RoundUp (and now Bayer).
PS…news story about three months ago: Dow knew that they were providing an herbicide that they knew for FORTY YEARS was a carcinogen When the people started to look at all the cancer cases and potential causes for same, the people discovered it was this chemical…and that Dow knew it caused cancer all along. They had been poisoning that little town’s water all that time. Unbelievable.
