Put a teen in a car and add texting/talking while driving and you have a very dangerous driver who will have an at fault accident. No wonder the rates are so high for them.

Here … let me fix that comment for you:

Put anyone in a car and add texting/talking while driving and you have a very dangerous driver who will have an at fault accident.

Rates are high for teen drivers because they’re inexperienced, Agent. I certainly agree that cell phone talking/texting increases that risk, but that behavior is addressed by cell phone/texting and inattentive driving violation surcharges.

This really is old news. I’ve been in personal lines insurance business for over 30 years. Its a known fact that a large percentage of teens will get into an accident shortly after getting their license. AND that was BEFORE cell phones. We need to stop blaming everything on cell phones.
