The lawsuits by the victims may hold merit. The lawsuits by MGM likely hold less, if any, merit in an attempt to defend itself and deter more lawsuits against it. That said, this cycle of suits (see: Sue You, Sue Me Blues) is a result of a US judicial / legal / litigation system that doesn’t sufficiently punish plaintiffs who file frivolous lawsuits. While both sides’ suits may have merit, this will tie up US courts for years, with appeals following an initial verdict. Who wins? Only the layers upon layers of lawyers upon lawyers. Hopefully, Gorsuch & Kavanaugh & Ginsburg’s replacement get to rule on a similar case that reaches them to deter such waste of judicial resources and unnecessary, inefficient wealth transfer to undeserving lawyers.

This one of the poorest PR decisions I’ve ever seen, and if MGM didn’t factor a major backlash in their decision to sue the whole legal decision team needs to be replaced with people with a smidgeon of sense. Boycotts, countersuits… heaven help them because not many people here will be.

Why should they be held liable? They did nothing wrong. People are trying to attack the deep pockets looking for a payout, and all the other commentators are saying oh this is bad press, just pay out blah blah. No. They shouldn’t have to pay 1 thin dime, that is fair. Now if they want to donate publicly for goodwill and good publicity that’s their own choice.

They explain their position well within a couple lines. Why should property owners be held liable for the unforeseen action of a madman? Simply saying “it holds merit” or “may not hold merit” is not an argument. and PR? yeah maybe, but they shoiudn’t be forced. That’s adding insult to injury. They will probably be feared by people afraid of a similar event, however unlikely occuring again, they most likely have nervous employees, bad press, losing money, unrented rooms.

Why didn’t a single alarm go off when the idiot busted out the window? That should have spurred someone to look into the room. Isn’t that a form of negligence?

The windows are not alarmed? Are all windows in all buildings alarmed? I’m sure the windows in my high rise office building are not alarmed. I have never lived in a high rise apartment/condo building but feel those windows are not alarmed. Of all the hotels I have stayed in I feel fairly confident that none of those windows were alarmed, especially those that opened. Does your home have alarmed windows?

This won’t be the last shooting specially in Las Vegas! Vegas is known for sex, gambling, drugs, out of control people. It’s just a matter of time before more of these outside concerts get hit. We are living in a world so full of hate, and greed! Before you go to these concertsI would pray like Hell that you get out alive & home safe.

So you think our tort system is just fine? And if not, who do you think is most responsible for it being so messed up? The left, totally controlled by the plaintiff’s bar? Or the right?

The SCOTUS comment is not political. It is judicial. The problem with Liberals’ approach to the SCOTUS is that they THINK (wrongly) that the duty / task of the SCOTUS is to legislate from the bench, not adjudicate according to The US Constitution. Hence, my comment on the JUDICIAL system, of which SCOTUS is the final destination of all appealed lower court rulings.

There is no way anybody could have foreseeably seen this coming. There probably is no law against bringing weapons into one’s hotel room. Suppose there was a gun dealer’s show happening in Vegas, what’s a better place to store the guns? Locked up in your car that could easily be broken into and all the guns stolen? Or in your hotel room? The shooter is responsible for this tragedy, not the hotel. His estate should be sued for everything in it.

Did anyone see the video of hotel employees helping this madman bring all his boxes and luggage up to the room which was far in excess of what normal people have? Did anyone see the security guard crouching outside the door of the room with all that shooting going on? I hope they borycott big time. Plenty of places to stay in Las Vegas. Hope they feel the pinch.

Your conclusion is unfounded. You CONCLUDED that NO WAY could ANYbody have foreseen the act of someone who holed up in a hotel room, with boxes and bags of stuff brought in, over a long period of time. You require an assumption of a gun convention that is unfounded and untrue. You know there was no such convention, and require employees to be ignorant and not responsible for security, whereas most are required to go through rudimentary training in security and safety of guests.
