Hanover Hires Munich Re’s Cernak to Head Cyber Practice

The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. has appointed Eric C. Cernak has the head of its cyber practice. In this role, Cernak is responsible for overseeing corporate cyber strategy across all of its commercial lines and specialty businesses, to ensure a cohesive offering of products and services for the company’s independent insurance agent partners.

Cernak will also collaborate with Chaucer’s cyber team to share best practices and insights on emerging trends.

The Hanover’s cyber insurance products and risk management services target medium sized and small commercial customers.

Cernak joins The Hanover from MunichRe, where he most recently served as vice president and U.S. cyber practice leader for the company’s subsidiary, Hartford Steam Boiler. In this role, Cernak consulted with businesses on cyber coverage, regulatory and legal issues, technical concerns, and strategies. He guided cyber and privacy risk strategy for property/casualty insurance products and services, risk accumulation management, and performance monitoring across Munich Re U.S. operations.

Cernak began his 20-plus year career when he first joined Hartford Steam Boiler in 1999 as an engineering manager responsible for assessing technology start-ups and operating a research and development facility. He has also managed HSB’s identity recovery and data compromise insurance products
