Catholics, please flee from this out of touch church. There are plenty of denominations to choose from. Parents, never allow your boy to be an alter boy.

I wonder what the Catholic Church’s excuse was back in the 80’s when a couple cases came up in the Northeast.

I can’t believe this! The Vatican has known this has been going on f-o-r-e-v-e-r!!! My ex-husband was abused by his priest and it really messed him up. He was one of the first in Oregon to put his name out there as a abuse survivor – ended up getting about a $350,000 settlement from them. But listen to this – he was forced to take the money from a structured settlement that only paid him $1,600 a month. It ruined him and it ruined our marriage – he ended up overdosing on drugs. I got the court transcript and it’s clear to me that the Church has a system that preys on young boys.

The only way the Vatican will ever listen is if we as US Catholics demand no money be sent to Rome. If they don’t change soon it will not matter because less and less young people are going to church and I can’t blame them if they go somewhere else!

Abolish the catholic church! its not only boys but girls and entire families – the PA report showed all five daughters of one family were abused, so its not just boys.
19,000 lawsuits . . . Oh my gosh. What other organization could be allowed to continue that has these abuses. There’s obviously so much power in this religion which is very scary. I think they are all predators or they would turn them all in. The good did not turn in the bad and that’s why it has to be abolished. Thousands! Thousands! Oh my gosh.
and I feel so bad for underwriter – I hope you find peace. Soo very sad that so many people are still believers in this religion!

I don’t think abolishing a church fits with our Constitutional ideals in the U.S. I left the church after two abuse incidents involving my family. I’m confident the church will not survive in the U.S. unless they allow married men and women to become priests. Doing that may address the root of the abuse problem and would provide many great people the opportunity to serve their church in a leadership role.

One of the [now dead] priests who sexually abused young boys in PA was my priest when I lived there many years ago. I had no idea, until my sister told me that he was MOVED TO ANOTHER CHURCH and why.

Why are we not talking about the parents who went to the church instead of going to the police? This allowed the church to cover up the abuse and just sent the priest to do the same thing in another diocese. This is exactly what happened to my priest until after the 3rd or 4th episode, and then the church finally defrocked him. BTW, he ended up dying of AIDS in another state.

IMO, the church won’t do anything to solve the problem – so-called celibate priests.

People are absolutely deluded if they think only the Catholic Church is doing this.
