I’m not sure we read the same article. You wrote that “…the Trump administration is right in questioning the high costs of loss mitigation” even though you also admitted there’s nothing out there which indicates that’s what is causing the delay.

But “questioning the high costs of loss mitigation” misses the point of the article. The cash is just sitting there and isn’t helping PR, TX, LA, etc.

The problem isn’t “does $1 in mitigation save $6 in losses”?

The problem is “There’s $16M waiting to be sent to help Americans yet nobody has explained to the states how they can apply to get the money.”

Is that why there is record deficit spending with the Tramp Admin? He’s about as fiscally conservative as he is loyal to his wives.

Nope. It’s due to the moral and other damage to properties done by Obama’s Admin that had to be fixed at any cost.

First, Trump can’t do anything correct in some people’s eyes, so no surprise to see another article bashing his administration.
There is $16B to distribute. The admin is probably making sure the application process includes proper use of the money. It is for mitigation and not repairing damage. Who would give PR $8B without making sure it will go to proper use!
Further, the government has been shut down for a few weeks, also causing a delay.

Jack – how long is a “reasonable” amount of time to draft those rules in your opinion? It certainly should’ve been done within 6 months, right? That’s waaaay before the shutdown started.

After all, the article did indicate McFadden said, “In the more than 15 years I have been working on disaster recovery, I’ve never seen so much time go by between HUD’s announcement of funding awards to specific jurisdictions and publication of the rules that allow a state to use the dollars…”

I’m all for taking sufficient time to draft the right rules, but it’s been nearly a year and states devastated from the terrible events are still wondering why they can’t even apply to receive the financial help the government promised them.

OUR opinion of the ‘reasonable’ amount of time for someone else with the authority to do some task in the near future isn’t overriding or guiding. Leave the decision making to the decision makers with the authority to do so.

Comment on the propriety of the full amount of funds that were to be distributed; are they enough in YOUR OPINION? If not, why?

I don’t agree with that theory, but you clearly do. Personally, I think we should have a transparent government who provides us with factual data which allows us to judge if they’re governing responsibly or not.

Your OPINION that we should have a transparent government isn’t appropriate in regard to the decision to withhold money until a review of needs is complete. This is an issue of DELAY, not CONCEALMENT. Stick with the topic when you make YOUR OPINION known.

It’s hard to know why there is a logjam and I wouldn’t necessarily blame Trump for this one. For ages, Gov’t action is slow and money, once given, has been wasted. We’re all tired of it. This particular area, storm mitigation, seems like it’d be ripe for waste and I wouldn’t trust PR to spend wisely.

I agree SWFL — I certainly wasn’t blaming Trump for the delay, but the fact there’s been such a long delay to promulgate the rules must be frustrating for the locations that have already been promised the money. I would think, as these types of funds have been doled out before, there’d be some kind of template or structure to go by which would help speed up the process.

The Trump Admin is questioning propriety of the PRIOR allocation process. There is NO CONCEALMENT, and that is NOT the issue discussed in the article.

Polar – it’s just your opinion that’s why it’s taking so long. You admitted such in your first post when you said “There may be an underlying purpose of…” so you really have no idea what’s causing the delay either!
