There are any number of independent agencies that will provide a desk for those wishing to sell insurance. They all know that new agents will target friends/family first. (the old life insurance model) Some will make it, most will not. Those that survive should have some way of converting their book into an equity position in the “mother” agency. Many think that becoming an agent is simple. That people will be waiting in line to buy. Just look at the turnover in the agent force of the captive carriers. Not a week goes by that I don’t get a letter asking if I’d like to become an agent.
Seems like a great idea for some to get started in the industry. Not too much risk for Brightway – if agent fails then BW owns what’s left of book. Some insurance departments and/or companies may have rules about agents working from home with no customer access.
Why would anyone start an agency under these circumstances? It’s hard to make money in an agency today at 100% of the commission, I don’t see how you can make it on a 50% split and then pay a fee. The owners of Brightway must be super sales people.
No Cost? Not the way I am reading it.
Hmmm, is this for real? No cost? You might as well go produce for an agency and request equity in your book.
