Captain Planet…. Please tell me you are joking… This kid was publicly humiliated, called a racist and had his character publicly attacked based on a demonstrably false narrative perpetuated by several media outlets. Not only were all standards of journalism completely thrown out of the window, but this is a high school kid… He did not ask to be flung into a political firestorm or asked to be used as a scapegoat for Trump’s policies. If this was your kid, would you have the same reaction? Have you read up on the actual, factual circumstances of this “confrontation,” or the media backpedaling which ensued after the truth came out? This is not about politics, right or left, conservative or liberal; this is about a high school student being smeared based on a completely false narrative that never would have held up if it was subjected to the standards of journalism that said journalists should have been operating under in the first place.
Tongue in cheek, Augustine. I think it’s hilarious how those on the right can rip on the Parkland students, call others snowflakes for having their feelings hurt and characters questioned, but will stick up for anyone wearing a MAGA hat is all. Case in point – Craig. He obviously didn’t hear the sarcasm. Now, the amount of money being asked for in the lawsuit is a joke. I think we can all agree on that.
Captain Planet, I figured you might have been kidding. I think it is fair to say that the nation has become so polarized that people tend to put their stakes in the ground based on their political affiliations as opposed to actually caring about what the truth is… I don’t think news outlets like WAPO are doing anything except inflame the situation.
Oh, sure. The Parkland students were never attacked dishonestly and made out to be racist haters for wearing a MAGA hat.
Nobody lied in the media about the Parkland students.
And your sarcasm is obviously aimed at conservatives who use “safe space” and “snowflake” to describe liberals who can’t stand hearing other opinions.
This kid wasn’t whining about other opinions; he was attacked by a uniformly dishonest liberal (redundant) media that was out to ruin him; he was attacked by celebrities, who said his face looked “punchable” and was made out to be the epitome of evil, racist America on social media.
All because the media lied about him, didn’t bother to find the truth before attacking a white, Christian kid.
Misinforming again. Your heroes, El Rushbo, Hannity, Levin, Carlson, Ingraham – they all talked about David Hogg as the “TV Hogg”. Infowars called the Parkland Shooting a hoax. All because these kids and many others in the country are fed up with gun violence. So, quit lying again, Craig. Like those kids, we are all getting sick of that, too.

Conservatives are not tied, lockstep, with the persons or organizaations you listed. You use InfoWars, an extreme organization with a kooky guy, as a means of discrediting Conservatives. But you can’t prove all or most Conservatives actually believe or follow Alex Jones. Guilt by association isn’t admissible in Court for good reason, and your lame attempts to use it on a public board to discredit those with whom you disagree failed. If you can’t discredit / debate the issue and must resort to vain attempts to discredit the posters, you’ve lost and shouldn’t waste everyone’s time going forward with that approach. Try discussing the FULL VIDEO of the incident to make your point. I’ll guess you won’t.

And none of the conservatives you mentioned lied about the Parkland students.
Man, you are just lost morally, aren’t you?
Nah, quite the opposite. I just believe in the real Jesus Christ and not The Gospel of Supply Side Jesus.
I am comparing conservative media to the media you are criticizing. And, if we are going to hold those accountable who lie, let’s start with the jackwagon in The Oval Office. Oh wait, I am gambling on the risk that you are willing to look beyond all his lying. It’s okay when you agree with the lie, right? Talk about being morally lost. Tramp won the Evangelical vote. Let that settle for a second. WOW!

Integrity does matter. I am not a fan of him using executive privileges that are unconstitutional. That said, many of his actions have been within his authority, whether the left wants to believe it is or not.
Funny thing, Obama can put through an executive order to protect the dreamers but Trump or any other President can’t put through an order to discontinue it? Now that’s not hypocritical, is it??

The amount of the suit is high, but I hope he wins big against the Wash Post. They really painted the kid in a bad way, unjustly.
Nope. He has sound footing in this case. Review the ENTIRE video, not just what the Liberal Mainstream Media edited to broadcast. I expect you won’t because most of the history of your posts are entirely based on your desire to censor Conservatives and any story that supports their position. Hence; you want him to STFU, which shows your hypocrisy every time you post your opinion here. You either simultaneously or separately suggest others who are Conservative should not be allowed to post opinions, or their opinions should be BOTTTED into ‘hidden’ status. It seems to me you are the whiner. But that’s just my (Conservative) opinion; TIFWIW2U.
@Platitude: If this case doesn’t qualify as a valid suit, then what should be proper grounds for such a lawsuit? Who was harmed by the WaPo’s comments? Certainly not the Native American antagonist. Who, then, was harmed by the adverse publicity?
If the kid were black, a homosexual, beat up by a MAGA hat wearing redneck and a rope put around his neck he would be paraded around the networks…wait…it was 2 nigerians…never mind.
We in the industry, rale against frivolous law suits and now that one is against the Washington Post, it is OK.
If anything has defamed this kid, it is asking $250 million for his 15 minutes of fame.
Per your last sentence, you imply the suit should not punish the perp, but merely inconvenience the perp. So, what is the underlying purpose of a defamation lawsuit? Inconvenience? Amusement?
Irony: using the term ‘frivolous lawsuit’, but supporting various states which are filing LAWSUITS, with no chance to stand at the SCOTUS level, to try to over-rule Trump’s declaration of a National Emergency.
Polar, Bezos has been having a few weeks of bad Karma. First, his ex-wife is going to take about half his fortune, then wonderful NYC ran the Amazon deal off and now this. I think it is a day of reckoning which we have been waiting for.
Yes you are being somewhat hypocritical of this lawsuit as the overall amount is way too much. this leads it to being a frivolous lawsuit and you two have, in the past, rallied against all lawsuits that request amounts that are well above what they should get. I agree that the Washington Post should not have run the story with out both sides, but on the other hand the media is relying on the words of multiple sources.
On another point. The media is meant to hold all those accountable, and each outlet gets it wrong at times. The media is not the enemy of the people and if you truly believe it is then guess what you want communion that makes the media that holds those in power accountable as a propaganda machine. You were okay when they treated Obama harshly, but you are very different when it comes to this administration. If you cannot look at the news objectively to really weigh the truth behind it you are part of the larger issue.
Be Honest…let’s be honest. The MSM was never critical of Obama, much less treated him harshly.
The media should hold EVERYONE accountable with unbiased reporting. They should not manipulate or withhold information of slant the story to fit the narrative they want to portray. That Is what the MSM does today. How many times have they been caught lying or having to correct themselves? How many times has Fox News had to do that? That is the honest truth.

Wow. It’s nice to see so many comments backing up Nick Sandmann. This was Fake News at it’s finest. Yet, I’m still getting sales pitches from WAPO warning that democracy will die without them. What a crock. The only good thing about that rag is that you know you’ll never see them publish and Bezos’ dick picks.
The amount of the lawsuit is irrelevant. They sue for a high damage amount to get more press, because often these things are settled out of court and then no one is allowed to talk about it, so the only figure that is attached to the lawsuit is $250 million. It will be settled for much, much less right after the dismissal motion from the paper doesn’t succeed. They’ll freak out and offer an apology on the front page and a ten thousand settlement.
Someone said the amount is what Bezos paid for WaPo. I don’t know if that’s true. It would be interesting if that were the case, as it points to something worth thinking about. My guess is that the WaPo is an ‘arm’ of Bezos in his quest to push a liberal agenda, fight against Trump, squash conservatism, etc.

Baseball has started for my kids already. Coaching again.Love it. When that light bulb clicks on and you know they “get it”… Great sports clubs up here. all coaches go above and beyond. Great town to raise a family in.
I am loathe to compound a non-insurance debate on Insurance Journal, but there is a question of responsibility and potential liability that is often overlooked in the debate over this sorry episode.
To be sure, the Washington Post should be held accountable (or acquitted) for its reporting on any of the Covington high school students–but not because they were high school students. Those young people were in Washington, D.C. for a public demonstration (the March for Life). They and the adults who supported them must have known there would be media attention; after all, that was the point in being there. When you seek media attention, you invite misinterpretation. Adults, at least, should know that.
To take another example, we can sympathize with the students from Parkland, Fla. who are speaking out against gun violence after the shootings at Marjory Douglas Stoneman High School. We can also denounce the crudest forms of criticism directed at them. But if they choose to speak out on a public issue, they cannot be shielded from criticism by their status as children or victims. Adults, including their parents, have to accept that and decide accordingly.
Did you watch the full 15 minute video? The kids were at all times just waiting for a bus! Phillips was shown to be a bald-faced liar and the kids were harrassed by the Black Israelites for 45 minutes. The black guys were constantly yelling racist, anti-semitic, homophobic vulgarities at the kids (but they were black so that’s okay with the media).
The media ignored ALL of that, made Phillips out to be a martyr (when HE was the one who instigated the confrontation and then lied about it) and then the kids were made out to be nazis.
The kids were standing there. Waiting for a bus. (Guilty of standing while white, I guess.)
The Stoneman kids inserted themselves into a national conversation on guns, and if they are going to do that they must expect some people to disagree. The Covington kids didn’t insert themselves into anything; the crooked, biased national media did that for them.
Point well taken. If the students were waiting for a bus during a regular school trip to D.C., there would be no reason to question what they were thinking. Since I’ve seen adults use children for public purposes, I wanted that consideration to be aired. It may be irrelevant here..
Was Post should be held accountable (or acquitted). It would appear that they did not do their due diligence and jumped to conclusion. when I first viewed the video clip, it appeared to me that this kid stood there say / doing nothing. He took a beating on Social Media because of the look on his face. From what I saw, Mr Phillips approached him while the folks in the back round spread their brand of hate encouraging mass shootings. The post condemns the one who did nothing . while not even mentioning the hate that was being spewed.
