I spent my youthful summers on my Grandfather’s farm. Until my mid-teens, I picked cotton by hand, bailed hay, helped combine maize and hand milk the 6 Jersey cows. I became quite good at squirting the barn cats. The only government program my Grandfather participated in, was the “land bank”. Farmers were paid to let land lie fallow. They couldn’t even mow the weeds. The point is, the self sufficient family farm is basically a thing of the past. The cost of equipment, cost of fertilizer / seed, and the uncertainty of the weather and markets make farming a very high risk endeavor. Since I’ve grown accustomed to eating, the benefit to society of farm subsidies far outweighs the cost of those subsidies. So what if there are “corporate” farms that receive subsidies, the food still tastes the same.

This slanted article doesn’t mention anything of the money paid for fraudulent claims over the past few years. Perhaps TRUMP is taking that into account?

Yes, Tramp wants a monument. Wall, give me a break. Even if that’s where the drugs are flowing in from, they’ll saw through it, ladder over it, drone over it, or dig underneath it. The wall will be about as effective as Tramp’s bargaining power with N Korea.

Jack, were these writers brought to IJ from CNN? It is nauseating about the bias shown. I never see an article about the good our President has done for this nation. Overwhelming evidence that he is doing the right thing for America. The Deep State is intent on getting him and they will fail because they will be exposed for what they are.

You are absolutely insane if you believe any of that. 8 Americans lost their lives in the air Ethiopia crash because trump closed the government stopping the negotiations between the director less FAA and Boeing. That was five weeks that a fix could have been implemented but instead we had to wait for another crash. The list of Trump’s travesties will be written in history and it’s time you get on board with reality. How are those relaxed Mercury and lead standards for your drinking water tasting? How about still allowing neurotoxins for citrus crops proven to injure developing brains? That making you and your kids any smarter? How about the largest budget deficit ever? Money is the only thing this corporate swamp and you really care about.

          YES to all that, Reality.

If these people would only stop listening to State-run media, and consider a wider range of sources of information, they might add some critical thinking to their day.

I wish real Republicans would stand up to this dictator in the White House. He was a mob boss in NY and he’s still running that biz through his kids and network. No wonder everyone around him is being indicted and headed for jail. Not a moral bone in his yellow head.

Totally agree libra. Tramp is a disaster. Take anything, ANYTHING this guy says or does and have it come out of President Obama’s person. They’d be as horrified as the first radio installment of The War of The Worlds!

The reason why you never see an article about the good the president has done for this nation, is because he hasn’t done anything good. He has lost the respect for the USA due to his ignorance. He is killing our Country. He only thinks about himself and not what is good for us. He is an idiot and a criminal

This idiot in his second year got 2.9% growth (potentially revised up) which ties the best Obama had in all his 8, the bottom 10% of incomes have grown fast than they have in the year 2,000, and that has played out even better for families who not only had their $4,000 pay increase, they also had a larger tax refund by many thousands as well (a family of 3 got $3,000 more). In my state, that works out to about $8,000 more per family since Trump was elected when including tax refunds, it is absolutely astronomical changes for the poor/middle class family. Dicks pays $16 an hour now. 2 years ago you couldn’t get $12 an hour. That’s $32,000 per year. My wife when she last worked just before Trump made $11.25 an hour. That’s an increase of $4.75 per hour working at Dick’s for god’s sakes in 2 years. Throughout Obama’s tenure Best Buy stayed at $12 an hour from start to finish, and no, this wasn’t the Seattle minimum wage competition. That had no immediate affect. This translated across the board nation wide to the bottom 20% of the population, and that is pre tax refund of about another $3k. Trump didn’t just help the middle class, he picked them up more in 2 years than Obama did in 8. This is disregarding South Korea and North Korea meetings and talks, which are historic. The reason no one says anything good about Trump is the left is biased.

I actually do, but the OP there doesn’t.

I am all for cutting farm subsidies. I’ve actually gone over them in the past.

It used to be that the rich died earlier on processed expensive foods, but then processed expensive foods became cheap, and this was mostly due to farm subsides. I had a friend who went to a health and cooking school on the east coast, I can’t recall which because he was gone for years. All of them were against farm subsidies primarily due to this. He and his friends were of course liberal, but a little different than your usual ones. He would come by and cook me chicken. My wife called him the mistress. It was a joke, we both cooked, but he was a good friend. When you listen to people instead of find reasons to call them bigots you learn Diane. Your mentality and those who hate Trump isn’t doing you any favors. You pretend Trump supporters are these evil people who never listen. I can list tons of democrats I learned from. Tons. The reason why I starting having issues with them is I started asking for one, just one, to list when they have either been wrong, or learned something from me. Guess how many did that? The answer is not even my siblings, 2 that turned liberal.

You on the left are not open minded. You are not loving. You’re just meat and bones like the rest of us, and so is Trump. Judge on the actions and the policy. Not on character assassination. God I sound like a classic liberal.

In fact I’ll ask you the same question: What major policy stance did you learn from a republican in your life? Or something that could connect politically to some degree, it doesn’t have to be a direct connect, I’ll give you even indirect.

I have literally never met a liberal that could give me an answer.

Which is why I call it like I see it here. The left here are just as fake.

It won’t hurt to pull back the throttle on the crop production in the USA a bit. There is too much, most years, and aggressive wealthier farmers sometimes try and squeeze out the local family farmer by bidding up land rents and spreading their equipment costs over more acres. Sometimes the ‘unbelievable’ is rectified through the normal course of the farm financial cycles (e.g., Stamp Farms in MI) but normal ‘hotshot’ crop farmers sometimes take on excessive risk because they have the federally backed crop insurance. Some of the marginal crop land could go back into pastures and hay and be used to help new farmers get established. There’s too much chit and chemicals washing into our water anyway, brown spots and the like end up in the oceans. Not against my occupation at all but there is more to farm life than CBM – ‘corn, beans and then Miami in the winter.’

We’ve been paying way to little for groceries in this country. It’s about time that prices start going up. People have no problem dropping $1,000 for the new and latest phone, $30,000 for a new car, but “I better not have to pay more than $1.99 for a gallon of milk. I’ll die if I have to pay that.” I think we can divide the cost of groceries up to the American People and have a little increase. The government shouldn’t be so involved anyway. Same thing with Power, so hopefully gas companies lose their subsidies also or at least a big cut to them.

Baxtor….perhaps where you live and shop that is the norm. Unfortunately, as always, the folks who are counting the pennies until next paycheck cannot sustain more inflationary price increases for essentials, when their wages are stagnant or jobs are being cut back (i.e. bye bye retail stores , for one).

Thankfully, I’m not scraping, but during my lifetime I have been unemployed and suffering. Right now, I earn six figures and I do not buy new cars, or a new iphone, because I’m too busy saving for retirement, and helping a son with serious medical problems. By the way, I have a BA and and MA and own my own home. I wonder if you are just oblivious in your bubble.

        libra,
Yep when the person in front of you in the grocery store line is too busy to get off their iPhone X during checkout to pull out their food stamp card before the final tally, then yes I guess it is a bubble. Not everyone is like that, but the majority I would say are. People have no problem buying the gadgets, but don’t raise the food prices. Maybe you’re one of the millennials that everything should be free and have the wealthy pay for it. Do you know in Sweden the poor pay 60% of the taxes? It’s because they use the services. Here in America you cry for the wealthy to pay their fair share. A more simplified tax code could fix that with less write offs and no max on social security, but don’t rob Peter to pay Paul. Peter will find a way to stop being robbed and then your whole socialist system crashes.
