This is a horrible tragedy and obviously a problem Tesla needs to figure out for future emergency situations. However, I know Firefighters always have a window punch on them … do Police Officers not have that tool at their disposal? Please note I’m simply asking the question and I am NOT blaming the officer at all.

        Hey Buddy,

        1. Bots have never been on this site
        2. before it was a glitch that allowed people to click multiple times if you were fast enough
        3. People just disagree with your post because it was stated by Rosen that this is Tesla’s issue they must figure out
        4. I think it is a valid discussion to see why police who work to protect and serve the people do not have these potential life saving equipment in their vehicles in case of an emergency.
        5. Why do you constantly repost your hidden messages? Seems like an ego issue
        6. Grow up and debate normally, it is not liberals only down voting you, I understand you personally need to make things political to justify your comments like this, but it is not true (just like your bot claim).

Good day, and if I were you I would seriously get some help so you can figure out that bot stuff and finally realize it never happened.

He’s right about BOTs, Yogi…seriously. I used to click the mouse button literally dozens upon dozens of times to watch the hilarity ensue. It was very immature of me and I’m honestly sorry I did it, since it led you to believe you were being censored because of “Soros-funded bots.”.

BOTs definitely exist and are used often on the cesspools known as Twitter and Facebook, but PLEASE believe me when I tell you that any BOT user isn’t going to bother with the comments on an insurance industry newsletter…there’s just not enough readership to justify it. I’m honestly trying to do you a favor here…you need to drop the BOT talk.

Polar – I’m genuinely curious about your intent with this re-post.

Before you posted this one, I already wrote 3 times that this was Tesla’s problem, they need to figure it out, and I was not blaming the officer.

“people who like to blame the PD for everything” – obviously “everything” includes “everything” which includes the inability to extricate the driver due to the horrible Tesla door handles in this case.

How can you still say that anyone is blaming the PD here?

Come on man, I already wrote “This is….obviously a problem Tesla needs to figure out for future emergency situations” and “I am NOT blaming the officer at all.” But I’ll write it for a third time now so it’s abundantly clear … it’s Tesla problem, they need to figure it out, and I am not blaming the officer.

I was simply asking the question — do police officers carry window punches like firefighters do? If you can’t answer my question, that’s fine, but don’t pretend like I was blaming anyone but Tesla.

That interpretation of my comment is utterly absurd.

The driver could have been unconscious after the crash as well. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for police officers to carry a compact device for breaking windows in cases like this. Doors on any vehicle can get jammed shut during crashes.

Last paragraph – a Tesla doing 116 mph smashes into a concrete wall and it’s “entirely survivable”. Really?

116 mph crash into a concrete wall is “entirely survivable”?

Maybe it was a finger stutter, and they meant to write a 16 mph crash?

Good question, JMK, but it was definitely 116 MPH. That story has been out there awhile and the fact the family is suing is interesting.

If the window was tempered glass, then a simple contact to a corner edge with the officers firearm would have made short duration of the glass. It is possible that the window was a laminate, similar to the windshield as some car manufacters are using such glass for roll over stability. Regardless, if the cop couldn’t defeat a glass window, how could he have opened a locked door regardless of the type of door handle he put his paws on?

Any idea if a window punch works on laminate glass?

It does not. Only works on tempered glass.

If ANY CAR door is locked from the inside, like a Lexus or others, and whether the door handle is recessed or not, none will allow you to unlock the car.

    They should’ve broken the window.
