Legal point: Is this not an ex-post-facto law which is unconstitutional? Or do civil suits not apply to that standard?
Moral point: Still, the fact that there were bad apples in the clergy was bad enough, but Rome’s decades of coverups show where their priorities lay and it wasn’t with the members.
Forgiving the repentant for sin is great and is at the heart of the Christian message, but that doesn’t remove the consequences of our sin. Continual excusing of ongoing sin, however, is repeatedly rejected by Christ and the apostles.
The coverup moved the responsibility from individual pedo priests to the institution itself. What did Christianity’s Founder say about those who cause little ones to stumble?
Speaking of cover-ups, we learned yesterday that the woman credibly accusing Prince Andrew of pedophilia said she saw Bill and Hillary staying at Epstein’s ranch in New Mexico. This contradicts Big Bill’s statement that he never visited Epstein except at Epstein’s NY town home. Hmmmm. And this is the first time Hillary is linked to Epstein. Hmmmm.
Think the media might have some interest, what with Hillary’s close ties to Weinstein already established? You mean she and Bill never knew anything about Weinstein’s reputation and Epstein’s pedophilia? Right.
Maybe all the MeToo supporters will finally demand a thorough investigation into Big Bill. After all, he was credibly accused of rape by one woman and sexual assault by another woman, according to the NY Times, and now his connection to Epstein is bigger than he said it was. Investigate? Media reports?
Right. Never Going to Happen. MeToo is awol. “Get the Catholics!”
Weird you mention Hillary and not Trump? I agree that the overall ties the Clinton’s have should be investigated. My issue with your attack on them would be you aren’t even handed.
Trump lied about knowing Prince Andrew as he has made comments about them throughout the years and as recently as 2016. There was a photo of him in 2000 with the prince in 2000 when he was still dating Melania. Why would he lie about this and his connections to Epstein who he didn’t distance himself until recently and has gone on record in an interview in 2002 admitting he and Epstein were the same and loved to spend their money, but that Epstein liked the girls a lot younger?
Everyone has said that both sides have people who should not be in power including anyone who is a child predator. Trump has had lawsuits by people where they accused him of sexual abuse. There was one in 1994 that he was sued by a 13 year old, and a witness confirmed that it happened and this was at a party hosted by Epstein. He was also accused of rape by his wife and business associate. And I know we have some people here who are old school so I will say this, yes you can sexually assault your significant other.
Weird you didn’t acknowledge that Hillary was in the news for the first time with regard to Epstein, and the news on Trump is old.
Investigate them all. Right?
As if the media will bother investigating this. They care less about whether Trump committed some pedophilia than they care about protecting Bill and Hillary.
Kids getting hurt? Collateral damage for liberals. Especially the MeToo crowd.
Your lack of your own honesty is astounding. (not old news by trump since this week he said he didn’t know andrew, yet that was proven false real quick). By your own logic kids getting hurt is just collateral damage for republicans. Especially for the Trump can do nothing wrong crowd.
Oh wait, no child predator should be in a seat of power, but Trump was one…. sooooo…..
Your blatant ignorance and bias is just sad to see in this day and age Craig.

So the fact that a person accused him, multiple witnesses came forward, he was pictured with the child predator Epstein multiple times at multiple locations, and the 19 lawsuits over the years with 1 being a child doesn’t matter and is just slander? I think that is called a means to look into, I just highlighted the person you forgot to mention who has denied their connection with those people who have again credible accusers and who admitted he hung around with the “especially young girls”.
That doesn’t matter to you. To use a paraphrase of a typical Craig line. How typical of republicans to not care about abused children (similar to your liberals don’t care about x, y, and z).

I agreed right away they should be investigated, and I pointed out after that my issue is you brought them up, but you forgot Trump. You were not even handed, yet you are trying to play as you were. Don’t kid yourself Craig, you seem to only care for trying to push false narratives.

I thought I might point out, when craig says:
“ow typical of republicans to not care about abused children (similar to your liberals don’t care about x, y, and z).”
He is mocking the fact that it is said to republicans on every issue, such as, being for border control, how typical for republicans to be ok with caging and murdering children. It is a response to the anti trump crowd.
I realize, how your mind will twist this and say “that goes both ways” in history, it generally has. Right now? It doesn’t. This is why Trump won, when he should not have. A huge swath of people are bloody well sick of this imbalance, Craig included. He is a reaction, not the cause.
You seem to be part of the cause, and are prone to call Trump a child molester, and yes, without evidence. All of what you said above is pretty much nonsense. “So he did know the guy and that guy has been accused of sexual assault, so he probably assaulted children”
This is so far removed from reality. Point one: Being in a picture with Andrew even 20 times doesn’t matter. I was at parties a lot as a kid where tons of people are I do not know or remember and didn’t know then. Your groups hang out, and you don’t know all of the people in them. Trump likely does not hang out with Andrew on a personal level, alone.
Point two: Hanging out with someone who has been allegedly accused of sexual abuse doesn’t make you someone who abuses. Trump hangs out with all sorts of high class people for photo ops. Likely 1000’s over his career. You would expect tons to be accused of sexual assault given the left’s baloney lies that 1/5 women are raped, so it stands to reason 1/5 of the people he know would, so 200 people.
It’s not like someone would try to make a far away allegation to stop someone they think is Hitler right?
The amount of allegations made against someone doesn’t make them true. None of what you put above is actual evidence.
This is so old. You called Agent extreme, obsessed, and you wonder why as you make such inflammatory comments.

I know what I said will anger you bob, but Craig was the one who started the conversation surrounding the clintons and how they needed to be investigated for their ties and lying about things. I just pointed out how Craig forgot to mention Trump who has done the same things as the Clintons (hung out around epstein, lied about their overall involvement, but Trump went a step further and distanced himself from Prince Andrew).
Overall you are biased, and you blatently showed it here. While you did make a concession regarding Craig, he is the cause not the reaction. Those that argue against him are the reaction. It is a weird outlook you have on that Bob, but again you have a lot of bias you show frequently so I get it.

Yet you are more apt to defend the conservative extreme that does as much harm as the democrat extremes which also does harm. By failing to realize both sides again due this and the overall impact it has at both division and ignorance is astounding how you do not see all of this.

Craig, get a grip. You are way off topic. Nobody is protecting anyone who was affiliated with Epstein. I hope they all go down. Now please stick to the matter at hand. You look insane saying, “but..but HILLARY! THE CLINTONS!” when this article is about hundreds of years of the Catholic church’s abuse. Get it together, or find a padded room to scream about liberals in.
“Moral point: Still, the fact that there were bad apples in the clergy was bad enough, but Rome’s decades of coverups show where their priorities lay and it wasn’t with the members.”
I love it when people say things to hear themselves say “good” things. That phrase should speak for itself, and should result in your getting ample down votes…However, people like to clap for themselves, and give themselves awards for supposedly calling out evil.
Your phrase is the same thing repeated twice. There is no Church doctrine in Rome to cover up bad behavior or crimes of any sort, sexual or otherwise. People within the Church took advantage of what they could do. These were bad apples. The Church has had far LESS sexual crimes than even the school system. I once posted the data on it, compared to attendees vs occurrences. The Church doesn’t have a system that encourages molestation. Clapping your hands for yourself saying the Church allowed it is evil. I’m sorry, it is. We don’t hold people or institutions accountable for rape if they are not accountable, it makes more rape happen, if you don’t assess the situation properly. Again, less sexual assault in the Church than schools. If someone walks in and says the schools covered up sexual assault, it doesn’t create a cure, because no one as part of the school charter covered up rape, for an example. We don’t blame the school doctrines, and we certainly should not be blaming the Church doctrines.
Catholics need to be scraping some of that gold gilding on their outrageously ornate “churches” to pay fines and compensate victims of their priests, cardinals, etc. They have operated outside of the law long enough.
it’s one thing to be anti-pedophilia (which is completely understandable and highly encouraged), it’s another thing to be anti-Catholic. This is the second article where you have made blatantly anti-Catholic statements (in one article calling it a “filthy organization”, claiming they believe the pope is god on earth and putting “churches” in quotes as though they’re not actually churches). The overwhelmingly vast majority of Catholics are absolutely disgusted by this and are doing what they can to ensure it never happens again. Newsflash: the problem isn’t with Catholicism itself but ANY large organization (Boy Scouts, Southern Baptists, certain universities, etc) which decides to handle issues internally rather than report them to the proper authorities.
Keep your ignorance to yourself…there’s absolutely no place for it on the IJ.
If the vast majority of Catholics really wanted to make a statement, they would be leaving in record numbers for another denomination. I would bet there are a lot of parents who will not permit their young son to be an alter boy these days.
You’re another one who never hesitates to jump on the Anti-Catholicism Train, Agent. Maybe it’s a Texas thing.
if the vast majority of Boy Scouts wanted to make a statement, they’d pull their kids out and put them in another organization. Or Southern Baptists wanted to make a statement about the sexual harassment scandal in their church, they’d switch denominations. Or if the Penn State / Michigan State / (Insert Other Big College Name Here) grads wanted to make a statement, they’d burn their diplomas. Or if the vast majority of Republicans / Democrats wanted to make a statement every time someone in their party committed a heinous crime, they’d leave their party, right, Agent? NO BIG ORGANIZATION THAT CHOOSES TO SELF-GOVERN ITSELF RATHER THAN INVOLVE THE PROPER AUTHORITIES IS INNOCENT.
Yep we females sure can be Altar Servers! That was how I got a lot of my volunteer hours for confirmation many moons ago!
And CS, why on earth should I ditch my FAITH because there are people inside it who are awful? Their behavior and actions have nothing to do with my faith and how I practice it. Catholicism doesn’t teach its members it is ok to be pedophiles and do abhorrent things to children……those are the choices and actions of human beings……it doesn’t teach it followers to cover up those horrible individuals again those are the actions of human beings……those that choose to do these awful things and those that choose to cover them up need to face consequences and their victims need to be recognized. Their actions and choices have nothing to do with the actual faith but with themselves.

Craig buddy (if not you, I apologize down voting this seems like a you kinda thing),
Why did you down vote this answer? Do you not agree with how the law works? If so, how come?
