Quote from the World Economic Forumt – “Workers in Finland pay one of the highest rates of tax in the world. In 2016, tax on personal income was 13% of GDP. But most Finns are happy to pay their taxes, according to a survey carried out by the country’s Tax Administration last year, with 96% agreeing it’s important to collect tax TO MAINTAIN THE WELFARE STATE”.

Not surprised that the conservative line involves fighting for big oil companies, no idea why they’ve become so comfortable being lapdogs for the rich, but at least the younger generations realize this is nonsense and are actively fighting. Eventually the current boomer generation will die off and things will start to improve, despite their best efforts to hinder education, younger generations are getting smarter every day and less willing to listen to the dinosaurs feeding them lies.

Oh, I don’t know. For some reason, millions of people are risking their lives trying to move here and Pew says about 500 million worldwide would like to be Americans.

Seems like we must be doing a few things right. Especially compared with, oh, the rest of the world combined.

Maybe you and you Prog. buddies could leave and move to the country that fits your politics. Cuba? Venezuela? China? Maybe Europe, where average incomes are about 30% below ours, including all those glorious government benefits you love so much . . .

There’s no need to eject the disgruntled US citizens who disagree with the majority of citizens about the great way of life we now lead, mainly due to capitalism, but also due to a Republic of States united to protect each other’s right to decide on their individual citizen’s, town’s, state’s, and nation’s way of life.

By the way, Conservatives did plenty to benefit the USA and allies around the world. Examples: Reagan & Thatcher paved the way for Germany to be freed from Soviet control. Trump helped many people in the Middle East to live in less danger, and Canadian, Mexican, and Chinese workers to benefit from better trade agreements with the USA. The list of similar accomplishments by Conservatives between those events is long.

Goalpost shift much? Pretty simple attempt from a simple mind, no surprises there Craig. Quite the reverse, countries that run ideally in my book would be Sweden, Finland, you know, thriving socialist economies. You conservative types are the ones always yelling about the free market, does that mean you want to move to Somalia? Your argument is ridiculous and you know it. Oh poor Europe with their lower income, but you know, healthcare, paid vacation, paid parental leave, free education, what a horrible place right? Your argument tactics are boring.

Also, Polar, once again spreading false info. Prove in any way that “the majority of citizens” believe in the “great way of life we now lead, mainly due to capitalism” since you know, capitalism has caused most of our major problems as a nation. Foolish old man, when will you learn that no matter how often you repeat the same lies it doesn’t make them true?

LOL you’re still trying to argue for Reagan and Thatcher, you mean the one who lied to us about the AIDs epidemic? I remember that for sure. What about the great conservative president who started a war in iraq under false pretenses? I remember that. You’re almost a parody of a conservative, Polar. That’s how crazy your side has become.

            And there you go, Jon.

Ask any intelligent Scandinavian and they will tell you their economies are more market driven than ours. They laugh at people like you and Bernie who say they are “socialist”.

I lived in Sweden and so I know they learned their lesson the hard way back in the 90s. Their standard of living was dropping rapidly under all that Big Government control. And so they LOWERED taxes on the rich and businesses to stimulate their economies. And it worked and so they kept those taxes low.

But taxes on the middle class and poor? MUCH higher than ours.

Congratulations! Your ignorance is showing once again.

LOL oh you lived there in the 90s? So you have the most amazing information on their current society and how they’re doing? Last I checked, not a big homeless problem in Sweden. Last I checked, still getting plenty of vacation and their health and education covered. Just because you have some hearsay that disagrees with that is not data bro. You have proved nothing except your opinion, and you know how you treat opinions from the experienced on the marijuana articles? Yeah, turn that around on yourself right here buddy. Your opinion is meaningless.

Taxes on the middle class and poor? Yeah they’re higher, but you also have free education and healthcare and ingrained time off, so it balances out pretty well. What about the RICH? How are THEY taxed in sweden? I bet they’re not given breaks to be paying a lower percentage than the poor, like here. Nice try old man, but just because you call me ignorant doesn’t make it true. Just like a lot of things you say, saying them doesn’t make them true. You’re still a liar!

Clearly, you don’t know anything at all about Sweden or Scandinavia.

Like the rest of Europe, they have moved right. Young people in Europe look at our economy with envy and wonder why they got tricked into paying for all that welfare for old people and immigrants in return for low paying jobs.

The dinosaur is you. Liberal economic theories are dead.

Don’t you fret, Craig. I’m well aware that Sweden has taken a note from our book and made a turn towards fascism. This is not at all helped by the 2011 Norway attacks which took out an entire generation of future leaders on the left in Scandinavia. What do you know, right-wing psychopaths exist everywhere, huh? You namecall and you goalpost shift and you straw-man because you have nothing to actually back up your asinine right-wing strategies. You and Polar both, you bloviate and yell and that’s all you are. Meanwhile your president has turned our country into a joke, you yell about Bernie and Hillary while your president spouts lies constantly and cages children. Yeah, I’m certain history will remember you fondly SARCASM.

Liberal Idiocy: fascism equals free market economics.

And right on cue, Wharton Business School releases a report that projects Bernie’s Medicare for All – while Bernie refuses to say how much it will cost – will shrink the economy over time by 24%!!!!!!

Go Bernie Go! With Bernie as the Dems. nominee, Trump can go golfing until November.

Jon – do you understand that one could take your comments, move them to 1968, and they could be used almost verbatim by a young person at that time, who are now known as out of touch “Boomers?” The older people you chastise were called “hippies” back then and they successfully brought about important reforms in race relations, LGBTQ rights and developed technology we use and take for granted today. Younger people have always thought older people were out of touch and older people have always thought younger people had crazy ideas and were disrespectful.

Key difference, CL. They were progressive leaning back in the day. Then they turned into rich old yuppies and decided what I have is more important than what we have. The younger generation was right to disagree with the older generation then, just as they are now.

Totally agree, and I think a lean to the right happens to many people as they get older. My brother was quite liberal in college but as he got married, had kids to support, got a mortgage, etc he became more conservative. We’re in our mid-50s now. It will be interesting to see how our views change in the next 10 years. I hope I can remember what I was like in my 20s and 30s.

Re-read what you just wrote. It sounds ridiculous.

You claim anyone who is a conservative is only so because of money. How childish. Most conservatives believe free markets make everyone wealthier. The poor in this country have it better than any country in the world.

The working class voted for Trump!

Most conservatives are straight forward about the government: leave me alone.
