The founders of our nation believed in the limitation of governmental interference with private contracts, particularly by the states. See: Contract clause : United States Constitution, Article I, section 10, clause 1. Since insurance is not interstate commerce, the United States government must stay out and the states are constrained. If the President wants to Nationalize the insurance industry, let the congress repeal the current laws. In any event, the upshot of interfering in these insurance contracts is an insolvent industry which only the U.S. government could bail out. If they want it paid, ultimately they’ll have to fund it. I would not, however, expect President Trump to know any of this.

Would you expect Democrats to know this? How about those in states trying to force insurance companies to pay business interruption insurance? Would they know this and so just ignore it?

At the state level, they might know this and ignore it. Most courts already ignore it. The founders don’t carry much weight any more, least of all with President Trump, smug with his in-your-face ignorance.

I don’t care much for what the founders intended, as their intention for me was to work without pay…and that is the nicest way to put it.

Seriously. Members of the right love to point out the founders’ intentions all the time. You know they were colonialist monsters, right? We grew as a people, stop trying to pull us back into the dark ages, right-wing nutjobs.

Jon, I suggest you move to another country so you can avoid the guilt you must be feeling for being a citizen of a county of colonial monsters.

As much as I know you’d like that, you can’t just make the people you don’t like (brown) leave “your” country. We have as much right to it as you, but find it hilarious that you don’t understand that your country was built on the backs of slaves. Technically, I should own more of this country than you do. I bet you inherited land from your parents, didn’t you?

Per usual it is all one sided.. You could just have easily have said ‘would you expect any of our elected officials to know this”.. you never disappoint in showing your bias.
