LOL sensitive snowflake conservatives whining about their hateful, dishonest posts getting removed. Welcome to the end of the internet boys.

No doubt you are ignorant on this issue. Under the proposal, a social media company can do that, however they are legally liable for the content as when they go in and say what content is okay and not okay, then they become the “editor.” When they are hands off an allow free speech, then they get the protections (which they shouldn’t really get, but since the users are free to post without tampering, then the liability rests with the user and not the company).

Now unlike you, I have an issue of viewpoints being removed regardless to someone’s politics. The left doesn’t like free speech because they lose in debates, so they have to shut it down (like you are suggesting). Conservatives say bring on the free speech, we are ready and willing to debate. But you are not, that is the difference and that just tells the word who liberals are.

Apparently, the truth hurts – or either party just can’t stand to even listen to another side. It seems they prefer their narrow viewpoint, tunnel vision, that serves their purpose only, right out of the Tom Daschel playbook.

LOL you can really talk yourself into believing any garbage can’t you? Freedom of speech protects you from the government coming in and telling you you can’t say something, not from anyone who doesn’t want to hear you spreading lies and BS from telling you to shut the hell up. You can whine all you want, but the world sees your president throwing a tantrum because someone pointed out the fact that he was CLEARLY LYING. The world sees you lying to defend him.

We know who the conservatives are, the ones trying to find a way to defend the president of the united states lying on twitter.

Jon, when you debate, you want to reply intelligently, otherwise you trash yourself. Notice how I welcome debate and you don’t? Why aren’t you inclusive and why don’t you welcome a diversity of viewpoints. Never cheapen yourself, I bet you have a great message to say but because you let hate get in the way, you can’t get your good words out of your mouth. This is 2020, leave hate at home, welcome diversity and inclusion.

Maybe anyone who doesn’t like free speech should exercise their own right to start up their own internet platform to carry whatever content they desire, with minimal fact checking or oversight.

And they could name it whatever they want so their fellow ists would know where to look.

May I suggest PRAVDAlerts as a start? Or PELOSIgram?

Let’s face it; there is no middle ground and neither side is winning any converts.

Actually, you are wrong. There is a growing movement of people who formerly identified as “liberal” leaving the Democrat party over issues like this.

More and more people recognize the intolerance coming out of the Left is the opposite of what liberals stand for.

You are correct CWC; people are shifting out of their own dissatisfaction from both sides.

Intolerance, like inflexibility, isn’t a good trait when exhibited by anyone. As long as we agree to disagree on politics, we can also agree not to point fingers or lay blame. Simplistic I agree but it keeps the peace here at home!

        Have a great day!

Again, for the second time, if the phone company decided to end calls that didn’t conform with their “standards”, the government would have stepped in a long time ago to protect free speech.

Your inability to understand this concept is not flattering to you. (But you pretend to be and think so many things, maybe you are just pretending again.)

I love when people try to make this “fire in a theater” argument and don’t know the actual quote.

            Holmes said:

“…if he cries ‘fire’ in a crowded theater, with the intent to injure the people there assembled, certainly his right of free speech does not protect him against the punishment that is his just desert [sic]

NOBODY IS SUPPRESSING YOUR FREE SPEECH RIGHT TO FALSELY YELL FIRE IN A THEATER.

That analogy from Holmes simply says if you do so, you are not immune from punishment for trying to injure people.

So go ahead and yell fire.

Watch. You’ll be able to do it.

Nobody will censor you and stop you from saying it.

Just be prepared to be punished for putting people’s lives at risk, which is all Holmes was saying when he raised this point.

Interested, well, free speech is only protected from the government. You may say pretty much whatever you want you just have to accept that there may be repercussions from other individuals, groups or businesses. Businesses can delete your posts if they want or they can disable the like/dislike option on their own website. They haven’t stepped on your 1st amendment rights because it doesn’t protect you from that in the first place. So many people don’t understand that.

Most people do understand this. Most people think it has gone too far.

Freedom of speech is not freedom of speech if using your speech gets you banned online, fired from work, and leaves you no public area to use your free speech. YouTube should be considered public domain, that they cannot remove anything.

Businesses are not meant to shape public image the way they do, the founding fathers did not want it. And the right is tired of hearing the left say businesses need to be regulated, except for here, because they are perfectly ok with suppressing ideas. This is wrong. Time to fix it.
