The pharmaceutical companies have had their cake and ate it for too long. while they spend money to promote disinformation about “freedom” to choose and push back against socialized medicine, my kids aren’t so easily moved. they didn’t grow up thinking that health care should be a paying proposition. In fact, PRICE is what drives their decisions more than anything. they shop for good clothes, cars, trinkets, vacations etc. and find they can get better without sacrificing dollars. The days of high drug pricing are seeing their sun set, not in my lifetime but in the years to come. No amount of lobby money will be able to reverse that trend. Anyone want to bet we’ll see the needle move as they become the major purchasers of health care; they may not need it now but as their kids get older and they have skin in the game, they’ll be in the mood to buy. Unlike the mandate for the ACA, they will be looking to buy but won’t be buffaloed by scare tactics, like questioning quality or worries about “death panels”. These worked before on a public that relied on newspapers and the major TV networks for information. It was easy to get those folks to buy that crap but my kids are internet savvy and don’t buy everything they see on the net. good luck Big Pharma. A new model is coming, where disrupters will enter the market, just like in insurance, to shake things up and they won’t all be Martin Skreli’s.
The reason your drug prices are so high here in the US is because we are the 1% to the rest of the world and we subsidize them. That’s what you get when you want the “rich” to pay their “fair share”. Can’t see the forest for the trees, can you?
