Here are two neglected tools for wildfire containment; 1. clear cutting and 2. controlled burns, both used to cease the fire at those points with 50+ yd wide lines. Removal of deadwood isn’t a cessation of fire technique, but it could be used as such by competent application in conjunction with clear cutting at those points.

As far as tools that can spot fires early and ease evacuations goes, it would seem to me that space based satellites equipped with I/R camera technology could be used to detect fire in it’s incipient stages and direct aircraft over the fire to drop extinguishing agents before the fire grows to unmanageable size. Is this approach being investigated? If we can read a license plate from space, we should be able to do this with satellites constantly monitoring fire prone areas on the West Coast and elsewhere, shouldn’t we?

Has anyone explored using space based satellites equipped with I/R camera technology to spot fire development in it’s incipiency so that suppression forces can be dispatched to the fire long before drones would be sent to monitor fire progress??? That type of technology could also be used to identify safe evacuation routes. Hell, if we can read a license plate from space, surely we could spot fires when they first start.
