Ah, yes. The dilemma of diversity hiring practices is that they clearly could put you in a position of reverse discrimination.

Out here in California, a proposition on the ballot would allow universities and employers to specifically consider race in hiring. So, if one person is clearly more qualified for a job, they can be passed over for a person less qualified but part of a designated “victim” group.

Polls show support from all ethnic groups . . . except Asians, who expect to lose out on ducational and employment opportunities in favor of other designated “minority” groups.

The move away from the goal of a race-blind society focused on merit doesn’t look to be so easy after all. Policies for preventing discrimination just gave way to policies that promote it, just so long as it is the “right” kind of discrimination. The individual? Whatever.

You and your right-wing cronies are always trying to say that diversity is making “victims” but that’s not the case. Your white privilege and white fragility help you pretend that everything is equal in this country, but it is not and has never been. The idea of diversity hiring is to level the playing field. White people have had advantages over people of color for the entirety of our country, you included. You can exist as a white person in this country and never need to interact with a black person. You could go an entire life and never rent from a black landlord, apply for a position from a black boss or be arrested by a black man. The reverse is impossible, a black person can not exist in america without needing to interact with white people. When you tie in the history of white supremacy in this country, the idea of not specifically working towards diversity is ludicrous.

Which polls? As noted numerous times, you lie about things like polls to support your position. Link the poll please. You won’t, but I’m just pointing out your dishonesty in such matters.

The move away from the idea of a race-blind society is because when white people “don’t see race” they don’t see the advantages given to them specifically by being white. They think everyone has the same advantages and disadvantages, and that’s just not true. It removes compassion, like it so clearly has for you.

I have no idea why Andrew deleted a clearly relevant question of Jon. Geez, Andrew, what is wrong with you?

The proposition in California would do EXACTLY what my question asked: it would allow the University of California (and employers) to select less qualified people based solely on skin color or heritage or sexual orientation.

BY DEFINITION that means other, more qualified people will be rejected.

I swear, liberals either can’t think through the consequences of the policies they propose or they won’t accept the consequences of those same policies. MAN UP!

It appears polls do indicate that voters will reject the proposition to repeal Prop 209 which eliminated affirmative action in 1996. One poll of black voters had them rejecting the prop based on the wording, but then changed their minds when it was explained that it would reinstitute affirmative action. California’s propositions are always written in such a way as to totally confuse voters. Misleading wording is probably why “we” voted to eliminate plastic bags at grocery stores.
