I know this is a preliminary report so NICB hasn’t released details yet, but I’d love to see the breakdown with respect to age of vehicles stolen.
If newer cars with transponder keys are getting stolen at a higher rate than before, that’s a big red flag and I hope SIU departments are investigating more auto theft losses accordingly!
Not sure if carjacking is a separate category or a sub-category of auto theft, but at the rate they are carjacking vehicle owners at gas stations and stop lights in Chicago, NY, and other urban centers, I can guarantee the numbers will increase . . . .
. . . . unless, of course, there is a political motive not to accurately reflect those figures. Funny how the article describes the crime of auto theft as a by-product of what the victims are not doing. LMAO!
