Brown & Brown Brings Its Wholesale Units Under Bridge Specialty Brand

Global insurance broker Brown & Brown has consolidated its broad wholesale operations under one brand name, Bridge Specialty Group.

As a group, the more than 25 wholesale units place more than $3 billion in premium. Wholesale brokerage total revenues for 2020 increased 13.8%, or $42.7 million, over 2019, to $352.8 million, and this accounts for about 13% of Brown & Brown’s total revenue. The firm also has its major retail insurance division as well as a services division.

“Each of our wholesale operations has long excelled in their areas of expertise,” said Stephen M. Boyd, president of Bridge Specialty Group. “Now, as part of a collaborative enterprise that supports a multibillion-dollar premium book, we can maximize our collective experience, technical knowledge, and strong carrier relationships to provide specialty market access that delivers a broad spectrum of wholesale services and solutions to retail agents.”

The wholesale brokerage business employs 1,578 employees. They market and sell excess and surplus insurance to retail insurance agencies including Brown & Brown’s own retail offices.

Bridge Specialty is organized around three practice groups — Casualty, Property and Professional Liability— and some of the specialties include construction, environmental liability, healthcare, personal lines, public entity and workers’ compensation.

The Brown & Brown wholesale brands now consolidated under the Bridge Specialty name include Affordable Home Services, APEX Insurance Services, Big Sky Underwriters , Braishfield Associates, Colonial Group, Combined Group Insurance Services, Decus Insurance Brokers, ECC Insurance Brokers, Graham Rogers, Halcyon Underwriters, Hull & Company, Izzo Insurance Services, JE Brown & Associates, MacDuff Underwriters, Mile High Markets, Morstan General Agency, National Risk Solutions, Peachtree Special Risk Brokers, Procor Solutions, Public Risk Underwriters of Texas, RLA Insurance Intermediaries, Select General Agency, Summit Risk Services, Texas Security General Insurance Agency, South & Western and Texas All Risk.
