Seems like a big jump from 1,400 original claims, to over 80,000 after “advertising blitz by law firms”. The latter part of this I have an issue with. Are they legit? How do you determine that? Is there a cut off date of how many years back? I was an alter boy and boy scout and never had any such issue with either organization

I wasn’t one of the 1,400 but I am one of the 80,000. The advertising blitz had nothing to do with it. Many of us are in states where the statute of limitations has long since run out. For years I didn’t think I could handle the horror of reporting the abuse and reliving it in court. Now many states, including my own, are waiving the statute of limitations to some degree, allowing us to come forward. While I believe some claims may be fraudulent, the Settlement Trust Agreement has guidelines for the Trustee to root out illegitimate claims. The last two years have been hell having to document every gut wrenching detail and I question my decision to file a claim. Hopefully, I’ll move past this at some point. I am sincerely happy that you, like the majority of boy scouts, have happy memories of your time in scouts and as an altar boy.
