The US has a crime problem in general, not to mention a morals problem. Until there is fitting deterrence for crime again, this will continue. Morals…well, that begins at home.
The right would like you to think there’s a potential cost if we didn’t have the 2nd amendment. Except for, you know, EVERY SINGLE OTHER country with stricter gun laws that shows data contrary to this. Liars gonna lie though.
The article sounds like it was written by a politically biased writer for the NYT, LA Times, WaPo, etc. Think of the number of lives saved by use of a firearm by a good person against a criminal – not always by inflicting damage, but sometimes by countering with a show of force.

The $12mil per loss seems like a stretch when one considers the % of the deaths are those who have never been in the workplace.
Here’s a better title, which I’m sure the author dismissed as not politically pointed enough:
“Violence by criminals with guns cost $557B a year. ”
