La. Commissioner to Meet with Allstate President About Coverage Issues

July 27, 2006

Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance Jim Donelon and Allstate President and Chief Operating Officer Thomas Wilson will meet Monday, July 31 at the company’s headquarters in Northbrook, Ill., the Louisiana Department of Insurance announced.

Commissioner Donelon requested the meeting with top company management after local representatives threatened that Allstate will leave the Louisiana homeowners market if they are not allowed to circumvent state law by dropping wind and hail coverage on 30,000 home owners in 18 parishes.

Donelon says the state’s consumer protection statutes prohibit any such move by Allstate to change or cancel a policy that has been in effect for more than three years.

“It is a law unique to Louisiana that has been on the books since 1992,” Donelon stated.
