Why only kids under 18? This should apply to EVERYONE. This country is on a slippery slope when it lacks the balls to take a stand on a clear cut safety issue because it may be un-popular. Driving is a 100% job requiring 100% focus and attention. A $25 fine is a joke.
I have to agree with you on this one. $25 is a joke…our parking violations are that much and the chances of people being injured, maimed, killed does not normally exist with parking infractions. The fine should be substantial enough to ‘punish’, and it should be applied to everyone. I don’t care how good of a driver a person is, when they are texting they have to watch their phone and thus are not watching the road. It only takes a second.
if you look at the statitic they put out, it did not point to any specific age. so, that is the case, why not pass the blame to all and have it applied to all. if you look around the U.S., many states are making this a violation for any age. some are accepting the hands free devices. when it comes down to it, there are many distractions in a vehicle. besides the cellphone, many folks are distracted – kids, food, music and many other sources. we can’t be totally free, but we can eliminate a majority of them. simplicity of it is, why does the government have to step in! it’s because – we don’t want to accept our own responsibility of our actions. we might have prevented the accident even thought it might have or not have been our fault. possibly even lessening the damage caused if we are aware. again, this can happen to anyone for any reason. we just need to take responsibility, no matter the age!
