It’s been over two years already. How much longer are we expected to keep catering to these people? There are plenty of houses and jobs elsewhere in the country. Or they could decide to buckle down and make NO work. I don’t care which. Whatever they do they need to suck it up and get on with life.

Come on now… you can’t expect Mayor Nagin to want to move his citizens into motels in N.O.

First if they do that, where will the torist stay?

Secondly, remember the problems that they had trying to get them to leave the cruise ships and other cities… they’ll become permanent residents of the hotels.

Agree with all comments so far. These people have bellied up to the welfare trough for too long. Nobody owes them a place to live. They have no incentive to fend for themselves and have had two years to re-evaluate how they’ll support themselves and get on with life. Even the idea of putting them up in hotels and apartments is absurd. Time to pull the plug. N’awlins might be their home, but if they can’t sustain themselves there they need to relocate.

Fema stepped up and provided them with a dry place to stay when they had nowhere else to go. How is it now Fema’s responsibility to pay for their healthcare? Perhaps the Gov’t should get out of the trailer business if they just get blamed for everything? The people that are still in the trailers (and other gov’t housing) are likely the ones that can’t be bothered to do anything to try to provide for themselves.

By the way, how much longer until we can send back all of the folks still hanging around in Houston?

Obama keeps saying that he wants to Change – well here is something needing to be changed!

Hillary keeps pushing the healthcare – well looks like we get to pay for their healthcare!

You don’t really hear about what the Republicans are saying in the media because the media is working hard to just bring the Democratic candidates to the public, with the exception of the occasional smear of a Republican constituant!

About them refugees – survivors – whatever you wanna call em – I say kick em to the curb now! Sell the trailers at auction with a disclaimer – as is no return & make the buyers sign a disclosre letter & waiver! Don’t wait until Summer (it will be hurrican season again), make them do for themselves, or let their families take care of them. Then if they got no family or their family won’t – they can start working through the charities that are set up to help. What are they breeding these days – more Moochers????

It’s not the responsibility of the Government to house, feed & keep them in good health, so why are they getting all this & more???

I say enough is enough & we stop picking up the tab for a bunch of lazy whiners that act like the world owes them! Sure, having to go through a traumatic hurricane experience is one thing, but they need to get over it!

It is now time to renovate all the vacant apartments in the city of New Orleans.

This solution could surely house the citizens of New Orleans that need decent living space.

It is not a crime to want to live in the city you know best. There is a solution, there is apartments in this city. Get to Work on rebuilding them.

Give New Orleaneans the chance to be home again.
I love New Orleans and there are many other who do also.

Renovate the many many apartments that are available in New Orleans.

… to vote Nagin out of office an did not. Now after two and one half years, and billions from the federal government, all this guy can do is whine about more money.

    No shame?

MOST responses on this particular issue are akin to those that whine that Jews should forget about the Holocaust and Blacks should forget about slavery. As this was a major catastrophe how about the people of Indonesia who suffered fromt the tsunami. They are rebuilding – why? Because the area is great for tourists especially European and American white males looking for sex with underage children. I don’t care for Nagin either but in a city that heavily relies on tourists he is a catch-22. I have seen several section 8 housing developments closed and also seen new construction. It can’t just take Brad Pitt and Harrick Connick, Jr only to rebuild. If they can projects in the Lower 69th ward and Musician’s Village up then why can’t the city & government of Louisiana step up and do the same

Some of these comments posted are based purely on racism. I have a stepchild in Houston, TX. How dare you ask when is she and her mother leaving? Houston wasn’t exactly a place where you coiuld leave the doors unlocked at night anyway before Katrina, Katrina and others… Welfare? Most whites are on the rolls – tell them to suck it up and get on with their lives. They make the most per dollar so why are alot of them on welfare?

Nothing like this has happened before on this great a scale. How about the Great Depression How long did it take for the country as a whole to bounce back from that? On one hand you can’t wait for the people to leave but on the other if they go then you feel that YOU have to carry them. How dare you put US citizens in the same category as illegal aliens? As far as I am concerned since the US didn’t want to give reparations to Blacks for slavery, federal assistance is the least taxpayers can do and really people of nationalities need help in NOLA but reading between the lines here you can tell images of looting and other crime are uppermost in the majority’s mind.

Resident, you’re the first person to bring race into this; so I don’t see how you get racism from the rest of the comments. The posters so far have pretty much said that all NO residents need to get over it and get on with life. We’re tired of federal tax dollars paying for them.

Note how nothing in that paragraph, or any post before, said anything about race, creed, gender, nationality, sexuality, religion, xenotype or anything else – just New Orleans residents. If you lived in New Orleans at the time of Katrina and have not yet grabbed your bootstraps and gotten off the public teat now is the time.

I think the Resident of NOLA has a problem with some of the posts… How dare someone ask when will they go home? HELLO, Houston may not have been the best of places but before the extra added bunch from NOLA came, it was better!

So how dare you try to limit what someone else can ask? This is still America & whoever wants to can say what they want & ask what they want & maybe we don’t all agree on the way or the how, we can at lease agree that each are entitled to their own opinions & freedom of speech!

Now, as far as the Welfare rolls – I would be willing to bet there are way more Hispanics than Blacks & way more Blacks than Whites, but that’s my estimated guess & until you have the actual #’s you shodul not try to make it sound so matter of fact like because people take that kinda jibberish as racism – it’s clear you gotta problem with Whites – get over it & start acting like an American & let go of colors!

God Bless all the Katrina’s but hey the folks in TEXAS have already pulled together from the Gulf Coast to the Arkansas & Oklahoma borders where Rita came through just a month after Katrina hit & they ain’t crying for money from FEMS, The US Government & every other possible charitable organization out there willing to give em something so they can syat sitting on their bottoms & waiting for more handouts – no – they got up & took care of business! My advice for the Katrina’s is to get up & get busy too – do something for yourself & don’t just sit back asking for a free ride & then complain that you don’t have the same things as your neighbors when they actually got up & worked for what they got!

    Happy Leap Day!
    I’m off the box now!

You must have thought that because Ignorant Nagin called NOLA The Chocolate City that he was referring to Dark Chocolate – there is Milk Chocolate & White Chocolate – what is the deal with pulling the race card???

You know, you & JEssie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Quannel X musr think that by playing the racism game that it will continue to work to your advantage.

Wise Up & be a person – do not count color – take that out of the equation & do what God put you here to do & stop complaining because if you keep on with it you just end up wasting your life bickering about something you ain’t gonna change – just change yourself & be an example to others!
