Insurance Premium Hikes in Oklahoma Double That of Wage Increases

A report from the White House says health insurance premiums in Oklahoma have risen twice as much as wages since 1999.

The report says the cost of premiums is up by 96 percent while wages rose by 47 percent. The 96 percent increase in the cost of premiums is among the lowest in the nation.

Michigan had the lowest increase at 88 percent.

Vice President Joe Biden told a group of state insurance commissioners the gap between premiums and wages is rising across the country.

The figures are based on information from an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services.
