Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak and McCurtain County District Attorney Mark Matloff announced the conviction and subsequent sentencing of Matthew Hammer, a formerly licensed insurance agent in Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Insurance Department’s Anti-Fraud Unit led the investigation of Hammer, and the McCurtain County District Attorney’s office prosecuted. Hammer pled guilty to one felony count of Obtaining Property by False Pretense and was sentenced to a three-year deferred felony sentence with an initial 30 day term of incarceration.
OID investigators found that Hammer was submitting fictitious policy applications to the American Family Life Assurance Co. of Columbus (AFLAC) and fraudulently collected nearly $3,000 in advance commissions.
