Galveston Man Gets Prison for Hacking Texas DPS

A hacker who targeted Texas Department of Public Safety computers has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison.

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Higinio O. Ochoa III of Galveston must also pay more than $14,000 in restitution. Ochoa in June pleaded guilty to accessing a protected computer without authorization.

Investigators say Ochoa in February also hacked into computers operated by the West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association, the Alabama Department of Public Safety and Houston County, Ala.

Ochoa downloaded personal information, deleted data and defaced websites then bragged about it online. Prosecutors say Ochoa, who was sentenced in Austin, claimed to be part of a computer hacker group known as Anonymous.
