    Hopefully they have tightened, not weakened, the workers comp laws in Texas. A friend’s daughter fell at work in Texas and seriously injured her back. The payout was a flat $10,000. She is now on permanent disability in Massachusetts. Businesses can thrive when they don’t have to be responsible…

    If memory serves, Texas is a voluntary WC state so if the employer had no WC insurance, an injured worker would have to file suit against the employer for the employers liability in the part of the injury.

    In your friend’s daughter situation, the company may not have had any insurance and unfortunately it sounds like she got the short end of the stick.
