Is it really a victory when you win a nice judgment against a defunct business and a former unknown football player?

It is if you have a liquor liability policy and possibly an excess over that in force at the time of loss. I would bet anything that one or more carriers were put on notice after the loss and will be paying on behalf of the now-defunct bar. The former player may not have much money left, but you never know.

This is true but realistically what limits would they have? They will be lucky if they get $2 million out of them.

The athlete may have had, at the most, a $5 PUP.

A professional athlete should have a higher PUP. If he does not, the agent did not give him what he needed.
